HealthQuest is a program of the State Employee Health Plan (SEHP) which provides financial incentives, such as medical insurance premium discounts, for taking actions that promote individual health and wellness.

In 2023, HealthQuest will launch a new portal and an updated list of incentivized activities. More information will be available from SEHP in January 2023.

Also beginning January 2023, spouses covered by the SEHP will no longer be required to participate in HealthQuest. Only employees will need to participate in HealthQuest to earn the $480 annual premium discount that applies to premiums for plan year 2024 or to earn the Health Savings Account (HSA) or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) reward dollars for plan year 2023.

The total number of credits required for plan year 2023 to earn the 2024 premium discount has not yet been set. SEHP will provide more information at a later date.

Since covered spouses will no longer be required to participate to earn the HSA or HRA reward dollars, the employer contributions are increasing for plans C and N beginning in January 2023.

Plan C

  • Employee/spouse or family increasing from $1,250 to $2,000
  • Employee/child(ren) increasing from $1,750 to $2,000

Plan N

  • Employee spouse or family increasing from $625 to $1,125
  • Employee/child(ren) increasing from $875 to $1,000

For more information or questions about HealthQuest, please visit the HealthQuest website or email totalrewards@wichita.edu.

Human Resources encourages employees to plan ahead for the personal leave time (holiday, vacation, discretionary day and compensatory time) they will need to ensure sustainment of pay over the Holiday Shutdown.

The shutdown will begin at the end of the day on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022, and reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023. The shutdown is nine days, two of which are paid holidays. At this point, WSU does not anticipate providing additional paid time off such as administrative leave during this year’s shutdown; therefore, benefit eligible employees will need to manage personal leave banks and compensatory time to cover the seven non-holiday days of shutdown. If this changes, we will provide further communication.

This is a graphic titled Non-Benefit Eligible Hiring Process. It is a graphic with 9 arrows numbered 1 to 9 (alternating colors of black, yellow, and gray), indicating the steps needed and by whom to go through the non-benefit eligible hiring process. Above arrow 1 it says Step One Department: post job and select candidate. Below arrow 2 it says Step Two, Department: Complete and submit non-benefit eligible (nbe) form. Above arrow 3 it says Step Three, Human Resources: data entry and initiate onboarding. Below arrow 4 it says Step Four, Employee: complete background request, I-9, and onboarding tasks. Above arrow 5 it says Step Five, Human Resources: Banner entry and confirmation communication. Below arrow 6 it says Step Six, Department: complete and submit an ePAF. Above arrow 7, it says Step Seven, HR and Other Approvers: approve ePAF. Below arrow 8 it says Step Eight, Department: confirm ePAF completion. Above arrow 9 it says Step Nine, Department/Employee: Hire employee and begin work.

We have created a new web page that provides the tools and instructions that you need to hire non-benefit eligible employees which include students (regular and graduate), temporary (both hourly U3 and salary U4), and lecturers.

You can find the page at wichita.edu/NBEhiring.  It is also found on the human resources webpage on the talent acquisition tab.

The NBE hiring process has not changed; however, this webpage includes new tools to clarify the steps for each type of hire, requirements, and start dates.

Tools include:

  • Definitions of each type of hire
  • Checklists for each type of hire
  • Updated NBE form (please delete any old, saved forms)
  • Instructions for how to complete the NBE form
  • Instruction on how to check on the status of your new hire

Additional tools and resources include:

  • International students hiring process checklist
  • International student process graphic
  • Background check grid
  • Links and info on Export Control
  • A section on Handshake — how to post and receive resumes

The State Employee Health Plan (SEHP) has added two new commuter FSAs for the 2023 plan year. These new FSA options provide reimbursement for specific commuting expenses, so please pay close attention to what is considered an eligible expense to determine if these accounts would be beneficial for you.

Both of these accounts accrue a balance throughout the year as contributions are made as opposed to being front-loaded at the beginning of the year. Unused contributions can be carried over into the following calendar year.

The Mass Transit FSA allows reimbursement for qualified mass transit tickets or passes, or State of Kansas vanpools. Eligible expenses could be buses or other types of mass transit passes.

The Parking FSA allows reimbursement for parking associated with your daily commute. Parking fees for WSU employees to park on our main campus are deducted from your paycheck on a pre-tax basis so would not be eligible for reimbursement from the Parking FSA. For this reason, the Parking FSA is not shown for WSU employees in their enrollment portal. If you have an interest in the Parking FSA for non-WSU parking expenses, please contact totalrewards@wichita.edu. We can request that the Parking FSA option is added to your enrollment portal.

For more information about the new Commuter FSAs, please refer to the SEHP 2023 Health Benefits Enrollment Guide.

Get yourself and your family vaccinated! A yearly flu vaccine is the first step and most important step in protecting against flu viruses.

This is a reminder that benefit-eligible employees and their spouses who participate in HealthQuest can earn three credits for getting their flu shot this year.

The State Employee Health Plan will not be organizing on-site clinics this year because of wide availability of on-demand services available at pharmacies and drug stores. You can also get a flu shot at your regular health care provider’s office.
