Tips for a faster vaccine experience

Here are five tips from Student Health Services to make your COVID-19 vaccine experience fast and efficient:

Appointments are required. Schedule at myWSU webpage under the “Home” tab.
Always bring your Dispense Assist form. For both the first and second vaccines. Complete, print and sign this form to bring with you.
Bring your COVID-19 vaccine card. For your second appointment, bring this card to be completed.
Be on time for your appointment! Vaccines are time-sensitive. If you’re late, your vaccine may be given to someone else.
Be prepared to wait 15-30 minutes after your vaccine. This is for both first and second vaccines.

COVID-19 vaccines are available to all students, faculty and staff at Wichita State. Vaccinations are also available for immediate family members (ages 18 and older) of Wichita State and WSU Tech students, faculty and staff.

Podcast focuses on the student-athlete experience

This is our final episode of the first season of "Let's Talk About It." It’s been a journey that we’re honored to have shared with you. In this episode, we’re looking at the unique experience of student-athletes. How do they deal with the pressure and publicity that comes along with the student-athlete experience? Cadman seeks art show applications

The Cadman Art Gallery, located on the first floor of the Rhatigan Student Center, is accepting applications for fall 2021 exhibits through midnight on Sunday, May 9. The world needs art now more than ever. The Cadman accepts proposals from degree-seeking students wanting to exhibit their work solo, group shows with several students, or groups sponsored by student groups, clubs, or faculty and staff. All proposals must be art oriented, and there is no limit on the style of art displayed. Applicants will interview with a selection committee on the evening of Thursday, May 13. Blackboard login and landing pages to change

On Saturday, May 29, Blackboard’s login page and landing page (the place you come to first when you login) will change significantly. This is a cosmetic change and will not impact Blackboard’s functionality. The change will be triggered at 8 a.m., and by 9 a.m. it will be complete. What will happen on May 29? Our login area will become streamlined with a photo of campus on the left side of the page, and a login box on the right. Women in Public Service invites you to participate in sexual harassment survey

Is sexual harassment problematic in your public service organization?

Important public conversations about workplace sexual harassment have been taking place nationally and locally. Women in Public Service wants to know how the issue affects public service organizations in Kansas. WPS invites you to participate in a brief, anonymous survey.

Responses are confidential and are part of a broad gathering of data, which will only be shared as part of consolidated findings during the WPS conference on July 29.

Now taking applications for Summer 2021 Shocker I-Corps

Applications for the Summer 2021 Shocker Innovation Corps (I-Corps) are now being accepted. The deadline to apply is June 1, 2021.

Wichita State University is a National Science Foundation (NSF) I-Corps site. The Shocker Innovation Corps nurtures and supports Wichita State entrepreneurial teams interested in transitioning their STEM [1] ideas, devices, processes or other intellectual activities into the marketplace in anticipation of profit.

Students seek participants to study back pain

Five students in Ph.D. program for physical therapy area looking for participants 50 years of age or older with chronic low back pain. Your participation may help physical therapists understand and treat chronic low back pain in a technological age using at-home therapy services. If chosen to participate and are placed in the experimental group, you complete an eight-week home exercise program that will be monitored via e-mail. The exercise program will not require external resistance (weights or resistance bands). You will fill out one questionnaire prior to starting the program and three questionnaires eight weeks later. Dance performances tied to Ulrich’s ‘Solving for X’ exhibition

If you’ve been by the Ulrich Museum of Art on the Wichita State University campus to see the exhibition “Solving for X=Identity: Sharing Matrilineal Memories at WSU,” you know that it’s full of powerful memories shared by members of the Shocker community about their mothers and maternal grandmothers.

As a part of that exhibition, students in sociology, dance and Honors College will present research and choreographed performances in response to those collected memories. The performances are on at 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. today (repeat performance). Both performances will take place outdoors on the front terrace of the Ulrich Museum where proper social distancing will be encouraged. Free and open to all.

“Solving for X=Identity: Sharing Matrilineal Memories at WSU” is on display at the Ulrich through May 8.

May 2-8: Celebrate public service

Join the WSU Public Policy & Management Center to celebrate public service May 2-8.

At 3 p.m. Monday, May 3, hear about living a life dedicated to public service and the road that prepared Dr. Lee Norman to confront a pandemic.

At 1 p.m. Friday, May 7, hear about Dr. Monk-Morgan’s journey in public service, as well as encouragements for the future. Afterward, join the Wichita Federal executives and Wayne Bell, district director of the SBA, as they announce and celebrate the winners of the Annual Make a Difference Awards, which recognizes federal public servants for notable service.

#WichitaStateEngaged is a five-part series of conversations to highlight and elevate some of the engagement work happening on and off campus.

Engaged Business was in March, and we talked with WSU SBDC and the Wichita Area Black Dollars Matter group.
Engaged Culture happened in April with The School of Performing Arts and Mulberry Art Gallery.
Engaged Youth is up next at 1 p.m. May 5 with the Youth Advocacy Coalition. The topic is youth engagement and retention.
Engaged Education will be in August.
Engaged Neighbor will be in September.
