A communication sciences and disorders doctoral student is requesting volunteers for a study comparing existing and newly developed clinical techniques for evaluating the function of the middle ear.

Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 35, have normal hearing, have not had an ear infection in the past three months or had a cold or flu in the past two weeks. Participants will receive a no-cost comprehensive hearing evaluation and ear examination before testing.

The Office of Engagement and Progressive Missionary Baptist Church (2725 E. 25th St. N.) are requesting volunteers for a mobile food pantry between 12:30-3 p.m. Oct. 29. Volunteers can split their shifts to help accommodate personal schedules (for example 12:30-1:30 p.m., 1-2 p.m., 2-3 p.m. or 1-3 p.m.). During the event, volunteers will hand out boxes of fresh produce, dry food, bread and desserts.

The office of Student Conduct and Community Standards is looking for students to join its Academic Integrity and Student Conduct hearing boards. The board provides students with an opportunity to gain community service hours and have a lasting impact on their college campus.

Serving on the Academic Integrity Committee or Student Conduct Board allows students an opportunity to meet and work with some of the faculty and staff at WSU while broadening their network.

Volunteers are requested to observe the Distinguished Scholarship Invitational (DSI) 7:30-10:30 a.m. and 2:30-5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20. Volunteers can be members of the Wichita State faculty, staff, alumni and community members.

Three $64,000 Harry Gore Memorial Scholarships are awarded through the DSI process to high school seniors attending Wichita State in fall 2022. Historically, more than 60% of the seniors who attend this program ultimately enroll at Wichita State.

During the DSI, volunteers will be present in each room to score student participants in an interview and a consensus-building activity. Volunteers can attend both shifts.

Wichita State is hosting a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at its satellite location in Haysville. Due to a national blood shortage, all blood types are needed, particularly type O, as well as platelets, to help patients get the care they need.

A group of physical therapy doctoral students is recruiting participants aged 65 and older for a home exercise research study to improve balance and walking speed. Participation in this study may help the field of physical therapy understand better methods to improve balance and walking speed using home exercise programs.

If chosen to participate in the eight-week study, subjects will exercise in the comfort of their own homes and will be given step-by-step instructions on the exercises, which will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes per day. Participants will need to recruit pre- and post-program results. It will take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. Creatures for a Cause is seeking volunteers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 9 at the atrium of the RSC. Stop by this interactive service event and give back to the Wichita community with Community Service Board. Help assemble stuffed animals that will be donated to local nonprofits in our community.
