Join HOPE Services for the free Mental Health and Movement Class from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. Thursday March 28 in the Steve Clark YMCA, where safe spaces are created for people to explore movement, the benefits of moving their bodies and how to use the resources at the YMCA.

The weekly class is open to anyone and sponsored by the YMCA and HOPE Services. Wear whatever clothing you prefer for the activity. Each week will have a different focus, and attendees can come to any or all:

  • 12:30 p.m. March 28: Stress management
  • 12:30 p.m. April 4: Stretching and yoga
  • 12:30 p.m. April 11: Group movement class
  • 12:30 p.m. April 18: Mini-personal trainer session with equipment
  • 12:30 p.m. April 25: Circuit training, Y 360 and keeping moving

Join the free Mental Health and Movement Class starting Thursday March 21 in the Steve Clark YMCA Studios, where participants will create safe spaces for people to explore movement, the benefits of moving one’s body and how to use the resources at the Y. The six week class is open to anyone and sponsored by the YMCA and HOPE Services. Wear whatever clothing you prefer for this activity.

Each week will have a different focus, come to any or all:

  • Week one: At 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21 – How the Y works and countering main stream gym culture
  • Week two: At 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28 – Stress management
  • Week three: At 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4 – Stretching and yoga
  • Week four: At 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11 – Group movement class
  • Week five: At 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18 – Mini-personal trainer session with equipment

Mindfulness and Meditation Every Wednesday from 1:00 pm to 1:20 pm in Shocker Hall A Multipurpose Room

Shockers are invited to join Mindfulness and Meditation at 1 p.m. every Wednesday in the multi-purpose room in Shocker Hall A, across from the front desk.

Mindfulness is focusing one’s awareness on the present moment by intentionally noticing one’s thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations without any judgement.

These sessions offer various meditation exercises designed to develop mindfulness and promote holistic wellness. Follow Counseling and Psychological Services on Instagram, Facebook and X for more content.

Campus Prevention Network 2023 Seal of Prevention. Safety - Well-being - Inclusion

Wichita State University has been named a recipient of the 2023 Campus Prevention Network (CPN) Seal of Prevention. The CPN Seal of Prevention is awarded to institutions of higher education that have demonstrated leadership in digital prevention programming focused on student safety, well-being and inclusion.

Each recipient of the CPN Seal of Prevention has taken action to create a safer, more inclusive campus through comprehensive, evidence-based digital prevention education. The CPN Seal of Prevention recognizes institutions making a measurable impact across critical areas including sexual assault prevention, alcohol and drug misuse, mental health and inclusion.

The CPN Seal of Prevention recipients reflect the top 10% of colleges and universities nationwide that have demonstrated their commitment and investment to not only academics but also the well-being of their students and the overall college experience. The CPN Seal of Prevention highlights the hard work WSU is undertaking to create a safe and welcoming campus community for students.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides a variety of group counseling services to students in multiple areas of focus and concern. Group therapy is always available at no additional charge.

Attend the #WSUWeSupportU “Mental Wellness and Preventing Suicide” training from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6 in 007 Rhatigan Student Center.

Learn about the tools available to support the community and assist someone in need. Students, staff and faculty are welcome to sign up for the training. Sign up to attend through the myWSU under “myTraining” or on the registration website. All participants will receive a #WSUWeSupportU T-shirt at no additional charge.

Be a Suspenders4Hope Mental Health Advocate 7. If a classmate is in distress, refer them to CAPS or submit a concern to CARE Team at wichita.edu/care.

The final step to being a Suspenders4Hope mental health advocate is to refer classmates in potential distress to Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) or submit a concern to the CARE Team.

CAPS encourages Shockers to take a proactive role in the mental health needs of their peers.
