Little Pumpkin Run

Lace up your kid’s sneakers and join the Little Pumpkin Run 1K Fun Run Oct. 19. The run is great for children up to 10 years old. Every young runner will receive a event T-shirt and a finisher medal.

If your child is looking for a bigger challenge, they can also sign up for the 5K Pumpkin Run, which is open to all ages. Whether they walk or run, all participants will earn an event T-shirt and finisher medal.

How to make officiating a lucrative business with John Blazek Thursday, September 26 NCAA NJCAA

Join Campus Recreation in welcoming NCAA/NJCCA sport official and Wichita State alumnus, John Blazek, as he shares how to make officiating a lucrative business and where it can take you. All are welcome to hear him speak at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 in 218 Hubbard Hall.

Blazek will talk about how officiating is a business, not a hobby, and is centered around people, and how Shockers can start officiating now through WSU intramural sports.

Blazek, who was the starting LB and 1975-76 MVP for the Shockers, is also the supervisor of officials for the D1, D2 National Junior College Basketball Tournament; current NCAA DII National coordinator and NJCAA National official consultant; and the former KCAC and KJCCC men’s basketball supervisor of officials.

Wichita State Campus Recreation cares deeply about the health and safety of the community. Its comprehensive CPR training taught by certified instructors is specifically designed to equip employees with essential lifesaving skills. Sign up now and gain the confidence to act in critical situations.

Classes are currently being offered to faculty and staff. The fee is $50 per person, which includes the training and certification.

The fall classes will be held Sept. 13 and Nov. 8.

Did you know there’s a Disc Golf Club at Wichita State? If you are interested in joining the club, go to open tryouts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 at Cessna West Disc Golf Course, 5801 E Kinkaid St.

After the morning session, the club will break for lunch and meet back up at L.W. Clapp Park, 4611 E Harry St. around 1 p.m.

Water will not be on in the Heskett Center Oct. 16-17 as new toilets are being installed in the locker rooms. The Heskett Center will still be open during those days for classes, intramural sports and more, but locker rooms will be closed both days.

Boats and Bikes are open every day from 9 a.m. to sunset, weather and water permitting, until Aug. 22. Shockers can get 10% off their rental by showing their Shocker ID.

Join Campus Recreation as it hosts this year’s Wellness Expo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1 in the Heskett Center.

Plan to join hundreds of fellow Shockers as they receive screenings and wellness tips from over 50 vendor booths from Wichita State University departments and around the community.

Campus Recreation’s educational and interactive Wellness Expo is almost here. Those interested in being vendors can fill out the vendor form and join the expo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 1 in the upstairs gymnasium of the Heskett Center.

Join Campus Recreation from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 in the Heskett Center for a winter wonderland pool party. The event is open to all students at no charge.

Bring a suit and dive into the 8 lane pool or just hang out on the patio and enjoy an evening of activities and fun.

Head to the Heskett Center on Dec. 2 and compete individually or on a team of four as you test yourself across 10 stations. Complete as many reps as possible to be champion and earn some awesome prizes.

Test yourself across 10 stations, 45 seconds of work, and 15 seconds of rest. Stations include rowing, bench hop, push-up knee tuck, lateral hop, box jump and burpee, pull-ups, squat press, Russian twist, dead ball over-the-shoulder throw, and sprint and lateral hop.
