Students, faculty and staff can anonymously drop off any unused or expired medications to Student Health Services (SHS) until Oct. 27 and it will dispose of them safely. Drop off any medications or prescriptions to SHS, which is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

October is National Prescription Drug Take Back Month, which is part of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) program to prevent drug misuse or abuse of prescription and over-the-counter medications.

Counseling and Prevention Services (CAPS) at Wichita State is introducing a “Healthy Relationships and Bystander Intervention” training for international students for the first time at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 28 in 240 Rhatigan Student Center. All international students are welcome to attend.

The discussion session of the training will be in English and will help attendees increase their knowledge and sharpen their skills that will help them become a WSU active bystander to keep the campus community safe and healthy.

Participants’ voices are important to the discussion, and they will get the exclusive chance to improve their professional development skills by giving CAPS their feedback, which will be used in its finalized training that will be presented in a larger scale to students who come to WSU from all over the world.

For Wellness Week, Counselling and Prevention Services (CAPS) is promoting mental wellness by hosting its next #WSUWeSupportU preventing suicide training and a walk across campus to show support for suicide prevention.

The training will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27 in 265 Rhatigan Student Center. The walk will be directly after the training and will go through the middle of campus from the RSC to the Student Wellness Center. Participants will receive a Suspenders4Hope T-shirt upon completion of the training and are encouraged to wear it during the walk.

The training is open to all participants. Students can register via the CAPS webpage, and staff and faculty can register on myTraining.

Learn how to help someone in need and spread hope by attending the next #WSUWeSupportU preventing suicide training from Counseling and Prevention Services (CAPS). The training will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16 in 256 Rhatigan Student Center.

The training is free for all participants. Students can register via the CAPS webpage, and staff and faculty can register on myTraining. All in attendance will also receive a free Suspenders4Hope T-shirt.

Become a Prevention Ambassador

Interested in contributing your expertise and providing outreach services aimed at decreasing mental health stigma on campus? Check out the Prevention Service Advisory Board’s Prevention Ambassador Program.

Prevention ambassadors receive training and mentorship in providing prevention and outreach services to assist the Prevention Services Advisory Board in our #WSUWeSupportU mission of preventing suicide, sexual violence and substance abuse, in addition to promoting wellness in the WSU community.

Take a Preventing Suicide Training. The #WSUWeSupportU Preventing Suicide Training gives you tools to support your community and assist someone in need. Upcoming Trainings: Friday October 28th at 1pm Friday November 18 at 1pm. @ShockersCAPS

Counseling and Prevention Services is offering the #WSUWSupportU Preventing Suicide training for students, faculy and staff at two events at 1 p.m. Oct. 28 and Nov. 18 at 231 Hubbard Hall. This in-person training is approximately 1.5 hours. Thos who complete the training will receive a free #WSUWeSupportU T-shirt.

The course aims to help students, faculty and staff learn how to recognize, intervene and provide resources for at-risk individuals who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts. Registration is required to attend.
