Nominations are now being accepted for two university-wide at-large seats for the Faculty Senate to serve a two-year term starting in the 2024-25 academic year. University-wide at-large senators represent the faculty of the entire university, not just a specific college or division. The Faculty Senate meets twice a month during the regular academic year from 3:30-5 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of the month.

All faculty are eligible for nominations, including current senators whose term expires this year. Submit your nominations to Lee Ann Birdwell at leeann.birdwell@wichita.edu before 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16. Self-nominations are strongly encouraged. Your participation is essential to a fair and inclusive process of shared governance.

The joint Wichita State and WSU Tech Faculty Senate meeting will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29 in 110A Woolsey Hall.

Know a faculty member who exemplifies any of the traits below? If so, nominate that person for the Wichita State President’s Distinguished Service Award.

• Distinguished service to the university
• Distinguished service to the profession and/or community
• Notable outreach efforts and/or forging of connections between WSU and the community
• Long-term commitment to WSU through extensive committee service

Complete a nomination form, attach a CV or record of service that includes the nominee’s service activities and include a letter of support. Previous recipients of the award are not eligible for nomination.

The Office of Academic Affairs has announced the new members of the emeriti faculty. Help congratulate the following retired faculty:

• Collette D. Burke, associate professor emerita of geology
• Kathy A. Downes, dean of University Libraries and associate professor emerita of University Libraries
• Rodney E. Miller, dean of the College of Fine Arts and professor emeritus of School of Music
• Scott Miller, professor emeritus of aerospace engineering
• Stephen S. Porter, associate professor emeritus of marketing

Emeritus status is an honorary designation conferred upon retirees in recognition of their contributions and accomplishments over their years of service to the university.

The Faculty Senate meeting will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9 in 110A Woolsey Hall.

The senators have been sent the meeting information. Faculty Senate meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday of each month.
