Fright Night FREE Event Haunted House You're Invited Campus Activities and Recreation

Don’t be scared. It’s just Fright Night! Join Campus Activities & Recreation (CAR) for a spooktacular time as we turn the Heskett Center into a house of haunts from 8 to 11:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. If fright is not your kind of fun, enjoy snacks, games, and activities throughout the evening.

A glow yoga class starts at 7 p.m., and the remainder of the activities begin at 8 p.m.

Pumpkin Run Oct. 22 2022 wichita.edu/pumpkinrun

Campus Activities and Recreation’s annual 5k Pumpkin Run will take place beginning at 9 a.m. Oct. 22 at the Wichita State Campus. Participants will receive an event T-shirt and a finisher medal. Awards will be given to the top age group finishers and overall winners.

Younger children up to 12 years old are also invited to sign up for the Little Pumpkin Run 1k fun run. Participants in the 1k runners will also receive a T-shirt, a finisher medal and a surprise gift.

Participants who can’t make it in person can race with virtually and get the same benefits by registering at the Campus Activities and Recreation Pumpkin Run 5k and 1k website.

One dollar from each registration will go to the Shocker Support Locker, which provides students, faculty and staff access to food, clothing, toiletries and baby and family products.

Campus Recreation Hiring for Summer/Fall 2022

Campus Recreation is looking for students to hire for the following positions for summer and fall 2022:

  • Facility attendant, entry-level position
  • Guest services assistant with a minimum of three months working in a similar position — customer service, answering phone calls, cash register knowledge, and detail-oriented.

Applications will be accepted through April 1, and interviews will take place April 4-15.

Wichita State University’s Campus Recreation is hosting the educational and interactive Wellness Expo 11 a.m. -1 p.m. today, March 2 at the Heskett Center. Students, faculty, staff, and the local community are invited to reach out to fellow Shockers during this event and receive medical screenings and wellness tips from vendor booths from WSU departments and the local community.

The first 200 participants will receive a free T-Shirt.

Exercise Science Interns wanted for spring 2022 3 positions available ACE certification included

Campus Recreation is hiring three interns for the exercise science program. The job role will include equipment maintenance, creating a cleaning roster, spotting, programming, customer service, training, and creating an online live stream.

Students, faculty and staff with a valid wichita.edu or shockers.wichita.edu email can download WSU’s Fitness Center F45 Challenge app for free. This app includes the following features:

  • Daily workouts: Choose among bodyweight, weighted or recovery.
  • Nutrition: Recipes and shopping lists for mainstream, vegetarian, and vegan meals.

Do you have sinus issues? Try a gua sha massage at the Heskett Center. A gua sha stone is a tool used to help relieve sinus pressure in the face, neck and shoulders. This type of massage can be helpful during the autumn months and the changing of the seasons. The massage can also relieve puffiness around the eyes and increase collagen production.

The northern roads of campus will close temporarily 8:40-10:30 a.m. Oct. 23 before and during the Pumpkin Run race for the safety of runners and volunteers. Drivers are asked to find alternate routes during this time.

Join Campus Recreation for glow-in-the-dark yoga at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Heskett Center. Participants are invited to stay and join Fright Night beginning at 8 p.m. at the Heskett Center. This free event will include a haunted house, glow yoga, movies, games, snacks and more.

This fun one-day tournament begins at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at Koch Arena. Participants can form teams, create some costumes (not required) and play volleyball with the arenas 4-foot pink volleyballs. The ticket prices range from $5-25. All the money raised goes to breast cancer research and care.

Participants can earn points for Shocker Homecoming by participating in this event.
