The Graduate School is seeking faculty, staff and community volunteers to judge during the poster session of the 2023 Graduate Research and Scholarly Projects (GRASP) Symposium from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 14 in the Rhatigan Student Center Ballroom.

The Graduate School is counting on volunteer services this year, and this will give volunteers an excellent opportunity to learn about the research graduate students have been engaged in across campus.

Join the Graduate School with past winners of the Academy for Effective Teaching Award at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22 in 142 Rhatigan Student Center to learn successful teaching strategies at Effective Teaching: Learning from the Masters.

Graduate students, join the Graduate School with presenter Dr. Christopher Leonard, director of counseling services at the Counseling and Prevention Services (CAPS), for the session “Stress and Mental Health for Graduate Students” at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9.

Abstract submissions for the Capitol Graduate Research Summit in Topeka closes on Tuesday, Jan. 31. Graduate students have the opportunity to showcase their research with other students from all around the state.

The Graduate Research and Scholarly Projects (GRASP) Symposium is looking for graduate student submissions for its 19th annual GRASP Symposium to be held on April 14.

This university-wide graduate research symposium gives students and faculty the opportunity to spread awareness about state-of-the-art projects being conducted on campus, showcase graduate student work, recognize the mentoring of faculty advisors and provide a forum for graduate students to practice their research presentation skills.

GTA training is Jan. 10. Join the Graduate School and the Academic Resources Conference from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 10 in the Santa Fe Room (233) of the Rhatigan Student Center.

Check-in starts at 8:30 AM. New GTAs are required to attend all sessions, and returning GTAs are strongly encouraged to attend.

Winners of the annual 3MT competition at Wichita State were announced Nov. 11. They include:

  • First place: Sangar Shanthanam, a doctoral candidate in electrical and computer engineering, working with Dr. Visvakumar Aravinthan. The winning presentation was “Low Cost Wave Energy Converter.” Shanthanam will go on to represent WSU at the Midwestern Association of Graduate School’s 3MT competition this spring.
  • Runner up: Sarangan Rajendran, a doctoral candidate in electrical and computer engineering, working with Aravinthan. The presentation was “Valuing Distributed Energy Resources.”

3MT, which stands for three-minute thesis, is an academic competition that challenges doctoral and master’s students in the Graduate School to describe their research within three minutes to a general audience.

The WSU Graduate School is the featured college of the game during this weekend’s Shocker Women’s Basketball against North Texas at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19.
