The keynote speech for the seventh annual Diverse Women’s Summit (DWS) will take place on International Women’s Day 7-8:30 p.m. via Zoom (Zoom ID is 978 0604 0268, Passcode is 417067). The event is free and open to the public.
DWS is a meeting of individuals and groups from different backgrounds on local, regional, national and global issues affecting women. The theme of the 2022 DWS will be Intersectionality at Wichita State University. The event is sponsored by the Center for Women’s Studies, Dr. Chinyere Okafor, professor and director, the Office of Diversity Inclusion (ODI), the League of Women Voters of Wichita, the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS). The planning committee for this event includes Okafor; Dr. Debbie Gordon; associate professor of Women’s Studies, Dr. Robin Henry; associate professor of Legal, Gender and Sexuality, American West, and Graduate Program coordinator.
The speech will include award-winning Wichita State professors who will speak about Intersectionality at the university. The following professors are scheduled to speak:
- Dr. Susan Castro, Fairmont College of Liberal Arts and Sciences associate professor of Philosophy and department chair, will speak on the topic of “Intersectional Ethics and Epistemology.”
- Dr. Voncella McCleary-Jones, College of Health Professions associate dean for Academic, Faculty and Student Affairs, will speak on the topic of “The Intersection of Health, Race and Gender: Standing on the Precipice.”
- Dr. Edil Torres Rivera, Latinx Studies and Counseling and Interventions Service and Leadership in Education (ISLE) professor, will speak on the topic of “The intersectionality of the colonial matrix of power: Gender, race, ethnicity, and power in education.”
