One of the things I value most about Wichita State is our employees’ dedication. Every day, your work helps our students succeed, supports your colleagues and moves our university forward.
As part of our commitment to recognizing those contributions and strengthening our connection to Wichita State’s strategic priorities, we will begin implementing myGoals this fall for benefits-eligible staff employees. This new simplified goal-setting process will replace our existing cumbersome performance evaluation process and serve as the foundation for a future merit-based compensation program that recognizes employees for achieving established goals and meeting performance expectations. Faculty already have an evaluation process, and we will continue to use that framework for this purpose.
Under myGoals, staff employees and supervisors will work together to establish two to three SMART goals that align with university strategies. These goals will create clearer expectations, measurable outcomes and a better understanding of how individual contributions support Wichita State’s vision and mission.
The first six months of implementation will focus on goal setting, alignment and learning the new process. During this time, supervisors and employees will receive training and resources to help them create effective SMART goals, track progress and use the myGoals system.
As this program evolves, myGoals will support a merit-based compensation approach that aligns employee achievement with university goals. Merit compensation will be separate from our market-based pay program and is not automatic. Instead, it is intended to provide additional recognition for employees who achieve established goals and meet eligibility requirements. Funding for future merit compensation opportunities will come from revenue production and careful expense management.
I recognize that any new process brings questions, and we are committed to making this transition as clear and supportive as possible. Ultimately, myGoals is about helping every employee see how their work contributes to Wichita State’s success while creating a more transparent framework for recognizing achievement and advancing our strategic priorities.
More information is available in the myGoals FAQs on SharePoint.
Thank you for all you do for Wichita State, our students and our community.
