The eighth annual Clash of the Colleges competition to see which academic college reigns supreme for the 2023-24 academic year concluded Aug. 25, and the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences was crowned champion for the first time. The College of Engineering was the winner of the Spirit Award this year.

Clash of the Colleges is held during the first Friday every fall semester and features competitions between freshmen from each of Wichita State’s academic colleges. Next year’s Clash of the Colleges is scheduled Aug. 23, 2024.

Welcome back to campus, Shockers! We hope you enjoyed the first week on campus and have started settling into your classes.

You showed us your spirit as members of Shocker Nation, and we’re still not done helping you get involved with your peers. Check out all of the upcoming Welcomefest events, designed to connect you with other Shockers, the campus and the rest of the community, and find more ways to get involved through Student Engagement, Advocacy and Leadership (SEAL).

Looking for where your next class is or where to park on campus? You can utilize the Wichita State interactive map straight from your phone.

The interactive map directs you to everything you need on the WSU campus, including identifying buildings, where to find dining on campus, where to park, what areas are under construction, the locations of emergency phones across campus and more. You can also watch interactive tours of campus.

Looking to get involved on campus? The next month will be full of events to help immerse you in the college experience at Wichita State.

The 2023 Welcomefest, hosted by numerous student groups and campus departments, will take place during the next four weeks and feature dozens of activities. Most events are available at no additional charge and provide you a chance to socialize, learn about the campus and find ways to connect with the community.

Shockers can attend on-campus Wichita State fine arts and athletics events at no additional charge with a Shocker ID, thanks to the Student Government Association.

Support your fellow classmates and faculty while exploring the creative pursuits WSU has to offer and display your Shocker pride at home athletic games.

Student Activities Council (SAC) is looking for students who are interested in learning more about event planning and those who want more of a say in what artists SAC brings to Wichita State.

Students can join the normal SAC member meetings at 4:15 p.m. every Tuesday in 233 RSC to become a full SAC member, or just attend the concert committee meetings from 5 to 6 p.m. every Tuesday in 238 RSC.

Joining this committee will take some commitment, and it will need volunteering throughout the planning process until the concert date as well as planning ahead for future events the following semester.

The Tornado Alley Press is having a print sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18 in the RSC. There will be multiple prints by different artists.

Destress Fest

SAC, Student Activities Council, will be hosting the Destress Fest from Dec. 5-8. At this moment we are open to receive submissions from departments and organizations who would like to host any relaxing, decompressing, and unwinding events for Wichita State students to participate in before final examination week. The deadline to submit events is Nov. 18.

Shocktoberfest 2022 October 20-29 Student Engagement, Advocacy & Leadership

There are just a few days left of Shocktoberfest 2022 — a campus tradition that’s 32 years strong.

Highlights include Shocker Madness on Thursday at Koch Arena, Fright Night on Friday and Heskett Center and the marquee event: Songfest on Sunday at the Wichita Orpheum Theatre.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. will be hosting its third annual Jersey Jam on Nov. 4 in the RSC Ballroom. Doors will open at 10:06 p.m., and all revenue will go toward the preservation and strengthening of WSU’s oldest fraternity.

Tickets are $12 for general admission without a jersey, $10 for general admission with a jersey, $7 for presale, and $5 for Greek admission. All guests must be 18 years or older with valid photo identification. No weapons, backpacks, purses, containers or outside food or drink will be allowed into this event.
