The next Entrepreneurship Research Series, “Market Research: Who is your Customer?” will be held 4-5:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at 217 Ablah Library room. The event will cover how to find market research and demographic data to understand your customer base, identify your target market and how to develop a focused research-driven advertising campaign.

ITS Applications Training is excited to announce two new training offerings for faculty and staff who are eager to learn more about SharePoint:

• SharePoint 1: Foundations
  • 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 11
  • Learn about basic SharePoint navigation, creating news pages and webpages in SharePoint, creating web parts, basic document settings, and more.
• SharePoint 2: Site Creation Basics
  • 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 13
  • Learn how to get started creating sites in SharePoint, manage site membership, alter site appearance and layout, modify the Quick Launch, set up libraries, and more.

Both sessions are offered in remote format, and interested WSU faculty and staff can sign up in myTraining. These sessions will be in regular rotation in the future, listed in the myTraining calendar. If you have questions, please contact Ali Levine at ali.levine@wichita.edu.

Are you looking for reading recommendations? The next Savvy Scholar Workshop will take place noon-1 p.m. Sept. 23, and will introduce participants to useful online resources for finding book recommendations and tools for keeping track of what you’ve read or want to read.

The Graduate School and presenters Lisa Parcell and Sandy Sipes, from the Elliott School of Communication, will host a Speak for Success event 12:20-1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at 112 Elliott Hall. During the event, students, faculty and staff can learn how to synthesize their research, speak persuasively and will learn how to explain the significance of their findings to different audiences.

Are you new to WSU and in a program that requires researching? LASI 170 Introduction to Library Research is an eight-week course beginning Oct. 13. It focuses on each step in the research process, with an emphasis on identifying appropriate sources and critically analyzing information in order to apply it to a research topic.

Want to learn the goals and initiatives of the Department of Defense’s (DoD) rebranded components? Join Intro to DoD: Special Programs virtual training 1:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21. During the event, DOD experts will review DOD’s mission and provide an overview of all DOD components including the following Air Force Accelerating Acquisition, Special Operations Forces Works and SPARTN.

During the training, participants will earn:

• Which components participate in the Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR)/ Small Business Technology Transfer Programs (STTR) programs
• How the components differ
• How to find open BAA’s and deadlines
• Tips to be competitive

University Libraries’ Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC) will host a variety of workshops during September. PTRC is meant to help inventors and entrepreneurs learn more about how to protect their intellectual property and support their business through research. Registration is required but free to attend.

Members who are admitted and enroll in a badge course by Wednesday, Sept. 14 are eligible for a full scholarship for selected badge courses (valid only for fall 2022 only.) Badges are academic short courses of one credit hour or less that are designed for working, non-degree seeking professionals. They are online and self-paced.

Each badge is designed with the practicing professional in mind so coursework can be completed online and at your own pace. Badges allow members to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and competencies in a variety of subject areas:.

Members who successfully complete a badge will receive digital recognition of their accomplishment that they can share on social media and link to a digital resume.

Students are invited to learn how to use Zotero at a workshop at 4 p.m. Sept. 20 at 217 Ablah Library. The title of the workshop is Zotero Citation Management Software.

Zotero is a free and open software tool used to capture and keep track of research resources, create citations and reference lists while writing papers, share resources with teams and to efficiently organize research processes.

All graduate students, faculty and staff who are interested in or planning to conduct a survey-based research project are encouraged to attend a free academic survey methodology workshop 1-4 p.m. Sept. 14 at 231 Woolsey Hall. The workshop will be presented by Dr. A. Lynn Matthews. It is intended for all levels; beginner to advanced.

The workshop will include an overview of the Total Survey Error framework, as well as a hands-on survey design lab. The Total Survey Error framework overview will take place 1-3 p.m., and the hands-on lab will be 3-4 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring the following:

• Lunch, coffee and snacks
• Projects and ideas to discuss during the hands-on portion
• Laptop or device
