Registration is now available for CourseLeaf Curriculum (CIM) training courses via Zoom.

The following dates are available:

  • 1-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9
  • 1-2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3
  • 1-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19
    This one and half hour Zoom session will provide a demonstration of how to submit a curriculum change proposal via the online CIM course and program forms, how to search for existing proposals, how the proposal moves through the electronic workflow and how to approve proposals. The last 30 minutes will be dedicated to questions. The training applies to any faculty, staff and administrators who would submit, review and approve course or program proposals.

    After registering, a link to the session will be emailed to you in advance. Please reach out to the instructor if you do not receive the Zoom link within 24 hours of the registered session.

    To log into CIM during the training session, you will need your dual authentication (DUO) device.

The Office of Research Workshop: Using Pivot to Search for Funding will take place at 4 p.m. Feb. 3 via Zoom. During the class, Fran Cook, WSU Office of Research senior grants/contracts administrator and training manager, will demonstrate tips and tricks for using Pivot to search for funding opportunities.

Rising to the challenge

The University Staff Senate would like to highlight free professional development opportunities through the Community Engagement Institute available at Wichita State University.

There is a choice of six programs, which are available from Oct. 18 to Nov. 22. Program topics include navigating vonflict and difficult conversations, telling your program’s story through a logic model, and fostering essential self-care in the workplace. You can register for as many sessions as you would like.

Need help with Ultra? The Office of Instructional Resources (OIR) offers a weekly come-and-go faculty lab 1-3 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays via Zoom. If you have questions about the Ultra environment or Ultra courses, you are welcome to come to this lab.

To address more in-depth Ultra questions, OIR offers a monthly “Please Help Me With Ultra!” lab 3-4 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month.

Blackboard has also provided the university with an Ultra technical expert, who will offer a monthly Ultra lab. The labs are scheduled for the following dates:

Wichita State’s Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences is hosting an information session at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1 via Zoom.

The session will review career opportunities in the medical laboratory sciences profession, an overview of the WSU’s Medical Laboratory Sciences program, and the application process.

The next training session for BeoShock is 1-4 p.m. Oct. 14 and will take place both online and in person. The location of the training will be announced at a later date.

BeoShock, Wichita State University’s high-performance computing cluster, is available to students, faculty and staff. Since its implementation, it has helped accelerate research and provided valuable computing experiences for students.

Named BeoShock after “Beowulf,” the computing cluster has two large GPUs and 720 CPU cores. As a comparison, most end-user computing devices have one CPU having between one and eight total cores.

This training session will be given at an introductory level so no prior experience with any HPC system is required. The two primary goals of this training are to help minimize the obstacles new users encounter and to improve their productivity with the system. The training agenda is as follows:

  • Hour 1: Introduction to Linux and command-line.
  • Hour 2: Introduction to BeoShock and the scheduler.
  • Hour 3: Open OnDemand and a question and answer session.

For participants who want to follow along with the  training, it is highly recommended that they request an account on BeoShock if they do not already have one.

University Libraries will offer a workshop about how to create a literature review 4-5 p.m. today at the Ablah Library (room 217). Registration is no-cost at the link below.

The workshop will cover how to conduct comprehensive research, synthesize perspectives to ways to presenting your findings.

The Society of Women Engineers and Fast Enterprises will host an interview workshop at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Partnership 2 Building (room A131).

The event will walk participants through various interview activities based on the Situation, Task, Action, Result method and allow members to practice answering difficult questions.

If you are pursuing Small Business Innovate Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) funding, please consider attending the next SBIR and STTR webinar 9-10:30 a.m. Sept. 21.

The session will cover the basics of SBIR and STTR, how to determine eligibility and how to figure out which of the 11 participating agencies best fits your technology.
