To enhance public finance conversations, the Kansas Public Finance Center, the Hugo Wall School of Public Affairs and the Environmental Finance Center are hosting a free workshop focused on building partnerships between public service practitioners and academic researchers. Join the day of activities starting at 8 a.m. Friday, March 31 in Woolsey Hall.

The conversations at the workshop will feature speakers from across the country who will speak on topics including infrastructure financing, decision-making, municipal sustainability, assessment tools and more.

And join an evening networking reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 30 at Social Tap in Braeburn Square.

Cody Charvat, operations officer for Sedgwick County Emergency Management, will conduct a training session for chief emergency building coordinators (CEBC) and emergency building coordinators (EBC) from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, March 23 in 142 Rhatigan Student Center.

The training session is for new EBCs or any current coordinators wishing to attend a refresher session.

Savvy Scholar Workshops Citing with APA Style Create citation lists in APA style. Mar 29 • 3:00PM In-person & Online

Have a class that requires APA style for citations? Then attend the next edition of the Savvy Scholars workshop, Citing with APA Style, from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 29 in 217 Ablah Library or via Zoom.

In the workshop, students will learn how to write and format citation lists in APA style, allowing them more time for schoolwork and less time on citation formatting.

The Institute for the Study of Economic Growth is hosting a workshop and hackathon event open to the campus community from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 8 in Woolsey Hall. Agent-based modeling is a way to answer questions and do science by conducting computer-based simulations.

With the workshop training, participants can code their own simulations using free software from NetLogo.

This event focuses on a hands-on approach no matter the person’s experience. Beginners are not only welcome but are encouraged to attend. In the afternoon, attendees will compete for prizes using the skills they have learned. The workshop is a useful resume builder.

Spending too much time collecting and cataloging citations? EndNote Citation Management Software can help eliminate the complications of citing sources by helping users upload citation data from library databases, create new citations in various citation styles and insert citations directly into a Word document.

Attend the workshop, EndNote Citation Management Software, from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 8 in 217 Ablah Library 217 or via Zoom.

All graduate students, faculty and staff who are interested in or planning to conduct questionnaire-based research are encouraged to attend an academic questionnaire design workshop 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, March 1 in 100A Woolsey Hall. The workshop will be presented by Dr. A. Lynn Matthews, assistant professor of the Barton School of Business. It is intended for those at all levels.

The workshop will focus on questionnaire design and formatting, as well as how to create quality questions to get quality data. The questionnaire design workshop will run from 1 to 3 p.m., and the hands-on lab will run from 3 to 4 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring the following to the workshop:

  • Lunch, coffee and snacks.
  • Projects and ideas to discuss during the hands-on portion.
  • A laptop or other device.

Looking to invent something? If the answer is yes, attend “Intellectual Property Basics,” the next workshop hosted by WSU Libraries in its Entrepreneurship Research Series from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 in 217 Ablah Library.

Participants learn how to protect their inventions, designs, manuscripts, trade secrets and more.

Finding the right OER for courses can be daunting for faculty. The workshop, “Beyond the Basics: Finding, Evaluating and Adopting OER,” will review the best places to begin searching for OER textbooks, assignments, lectures and other materials. Join the workshop at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 via Zoom.

It will also cover how to evaluate OER to make sure it’s a good fit for students and the institution. Since planning time is precious, participants will be encouraged to practice searching and evaluating during the workshop to make the best use of their time.
