Are you interested in utilizing the class team features in Microsoft Teams with your classes this fall? Attend the virtual training session, “Class Teams in Microsoft Teams,” to learn about the unique features of the class type of team, including assignments, quizzes, grading, reflections, insights, basic editing of the team home page and more.

Note: Before attending this session, please attend “Teams Advanced for Team Owners,” the basics of team creation, ownership and team types will be discussed in that session.

Counseling and Prevention Services (CAPS) is hosting the Spanish version of the #WSUWeSupportU “Preventing Suicide” training from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 2 in 203 Rhatigan Student Center.

Learn about the tools available to support the community and assist someone in need. Students, staff and faculty are welcome to sign up for the training. Sign up on myWSU under the myTraining section or on the CAPS website. All participants will receive a “#TeApoyamos” T-shirt at no additional charge.

The School of Social Work and the International Rescue Committee have come together to offer cultural competence and humility training for mental health practitioners and students, and the campus community is invited to attend.

The training will take place 1-4 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Eugene M. Hughes Metropolitan Complex, 5015 E. 29th St. N., and is available at no additional charge, but registration is required as space is limited.

The presenter at the training, Samuel Paunetto, is a social worker born and raised in Puerto Rico. He’s been active in decolonization and anti-racism practice for almost 30 years, working with marginalized communities in Puerto Rico and in the mainland. He is the health and wellness coordinator for the International Rescue Committee in Wichita, where he works to improve health access and outcomes among refugee families.

The training is built off the understanding that when the community of mental health practitioners acquires better cultural competencies, and a deeper understanding of systemic and social determinants, clients are better served, and health outcomes improve.

This training is offered at no cost through the Refugee Health Promotion Grant. The training follows and exceeds the core goals established by the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services in healthcare.

Join the High Performance Computing (HPC) monthly workshop, “Machine learning and big data,” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 23 and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 24 in EE 264 John Bardo Center. This workshop — sponsored by Advanced Cyberinfrastructure Coordination Ecosystem: Services & Support (ACCESS) — will focus on big data analytics and machine learning with Spark, as well as deep learning using Tensorflow.

The ACCESS program by the National Science Foundation leverages the accomplishments of the 11-year Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment project and extends the ecosystem to incorporate new research methods, thereby fostering greater inclusivity and democratization of participation.

The event is in-person and will be hosted by various satellite sites across the country, including at Wichita State. Interested applicants must first have an ACCESS ID to sign up for the workshop. Registering for the workshop can be done online through Eventbrite by noon Sunday, May 21.

The Office of Research is hosting its virtual workshop, “Developing budgets,” at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 16 via Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Ever wondered how to start budgeting a project for a grant proposal? Join Fran Cook, CRA, trainer from the Wichita State Office of Research, who will host the virtual workshop, demonstrating the proposal budgeting process, paying special attention to both funder rules and WSU processes and procedures.

The sessions will focus solely on the meeting functionality in Teams, including creating meetings, meeting settings, screen sharing options, meeting polls, break out rooms, attendance lists, meeting recording, meeting whiteboards and more.

To learn more about the additional features of Microsoft Teams, like chat, Team channels and group file storage, look for the “Teams Essentials” and “Teams Advanced” training sessions. In partnership with Vet-to-Vet Support Command and the Veteran Providers’ Coalition of Sedgwick County, Suspenders4Hope will host a “Preventing Suicide” workshop for Wichita’s veteran community.

Join Suspenders4Hope for the training from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 21 at First United Methodist Church, 330 N. Broadway. The first 100 registrants will receive a Suspenders4Hope T-shirt.

Registration is required due to space limitations.
