Mortar Board — a national college senior honor society that encourages scholarship, leadership and community service — is seeking nominations for its Wichita State chapter for the 2023-2024 academic year. The Wichita State chapter promotes Reading is Leading, hosts an annual book drive, and reads to children at local elementary schools.

The Mortar Board accepts students of junior status or higher, graduating in December 2023 or later. Members must have a 3.0 GPA and embody scholarship, leadership and service.

The Student Activities Council is looking for executive board members for spring 2023.

This opportunity lets you build skills in leadership, teamwork, event planning and collaboration. Students who are selected will receive a semesterly stipend of up to $1,000.

Applications are now open and will close at 11:59 p.m. Nov. 11.

Wichita State’s First-Generation Honor Society, the Alpha Alpha Alpha, or Tri-Alpha, is seeking students who want to develop their leadership skills while growing and developing a new student-led organization. Applications will be accepted until Oct. 21 in preparation for membership induction Nov. 9.

Qualifications include the following:

  • Neither of the student’s parents, step-parents nor legal guardians have completed a bachelor’s degree
  • Student has earned a minimum of 30 credit hours toward a baccalaureate degree
  • Student has achieved an overall undergraduate GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.

Graduate students who are first-generation can also be admitted with the completion of a minimum of nine graduate credits and a minimum graduate GPA of 3.5.

Faculty and staff can also qualify for induction by meeting the first-gen definition at the time they completed their bachelor’s degree, and they must be willing to serve as mentors for students.

There is a one-time fee of $25 for students and $40 for faculty and staff for lifetime membership to the First-generation Honor Society.

Join the Society of Women Engineers for a general meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26 in room A131 of the Partnership 2 building. Come connect with fellow students, hear from members who attended the annual conference, and share ideas for what you want to get out of your participation in SWE.

Graduate students, nominations for the Graduate Student Council will be open Monday, Aug. 22 until Friday, Sept. 2. If you are interested in holding a seat on the council and advocating for graduate students, please complete the nomination form below. We look forward to your nomination.
