Wichita State is honored to be an invited partner to expand entertainment and tourism in Wichita in the development of a premier championship-level tennis facility located within the 35-acre “Ignite at K-96” major multi-sport athletic complex, on the southeast side of the K-96 and Greenwich corridor.

The six-acre tennis complex will be built to NCAA national championship specifications. The facility will feature 12 outdoor and six indoor courts, first-class team accommodations and a spectator capacity of 1,500.

“This is an important step for Wichita State University tennis, and the university is deeply appreciative of the efforts of Marty Cornejo and the FDD team to bring a project opportunity that the university will not have to utilize public funding to develop,” Wichita State President Rick Muma said.

Mike Kennedy handshakes a Shocker player after a game

Shocker Athletics announced that Mike Kennedy, the legendary play-by-play “Voice of the Shockers,” will retire at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, marking the close of a historic 46-year broadcasting career with the program.

Kennedy began calling Shocker men’s basketball full time during the storied 1980-81 Elite Eight season and has since become one of the most enduring and respected voices in college athletics. On Nov. 17, 2023, he reached a remarkable milestone, calling his 1,400th consecutive Wichita State men’s basketball game — a streak that stands as one of the longest in the nation.

“This has not been an easy decision, as you can imagine, but after a great deal of thought and consideration, I know in my heart, it’s the right time to take this step,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy made an appearance on “The Roundhouse” podcast with Paul Suellentrop to discuss more about his decision to retire, look back at his career and remember some of his favorite moments.

Wichita State will celebrate Kennedy’s career during the upcoming season, with additional recognition plans to be announced.

The Shockers posted rounds of 291, 285 and 290 for an 866 (+2) team score. No. 31 West Virginia won the team title 23 strokes ahead of the Shockers with an 843 (-21) score. Wichita State earned another top-five finish on the year, its fourth in a row.

Ramirez bagged his fourth top-20 finish of the year and his second top-10 mark. He has finished in the top-20 in 10 of his last 12 tournaments, going back to last season. His 212 (-4) was one stroke shy of tying his season-best, but his four-under-par mark was his best of the season.
