October 28 Do I really have to cite that? Ablah Library Savvy Scholar Workshop 3 - 4 PM

Make formatting your research papers simple. Join University Libraries from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28 at the Ablah Library Digital Scholars Commons for the workshop “Do I really have to cite that?”. Instructors will walk you through how to format your papers and citations the right way, saving you time and helping you feel more confident in your assignments.

One of the most defining aspects of Shocker Nation is our athletics programs, made up of your peers, and with your Shocker ID, you get admission to all home athletics events at no additional charge, thanks to the Student Government Association. This week, you can attend the conference champions Shocker volleyball team’s home opener against Tulsa at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 in Charles Koch Arena.

The URCA Hub research grants can be used for travel in direct support of the research project (e.g., books, field sites, museums, historic sites), as well as most materials and equipment. All materials and equipment must stay at WSU once the project is complete. Grants may be used as participant incentives with proof of appropriate IRB approval.

Students who meet the following requirements are eligible to apply:

  • Must be a sophomore, junior or senior (by credit hour)
  • Must have at least two semesters remaining at WSU, including the semester in which they apply for the grant (i.e., a senior graduating spring 2024 would be eligible to apply in fall 2023).
  • Must have a faculty research mentor who is willing to submit a statement in support of the project
  • Has not received funds from this program in the past
  • Must present this project at the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Forum, held annually in the spring

Note: Preference is given to students whose projects are not currently receiving funding from another source (e.g., faculty mentor grants).

10/6 - 10/10: Food for Fines. Parking or traffic citation? Donate to Food for Fines and have your fines forgiven. Drop off: RSC 216 or Parking Services

Food for Fines is back, which means from Oct. 6 through Oct. 10, you can reduce or clear your parking citations by donating non-perishable food or personal hygiene items to the Shocker Support Locker, which provides food, clothing and other essentials to Wichita State students, faculty and staff.

This is a great opportunity to give back to the Shocker community while taking care of your parking citations. Donations can be dropped off at the Student Engagement & Belonging office in 216 Rhatigan Student Center or at the Parking Services building.

The Dental Hygiene Clinic at Wichita State is open to the public and accepting new patients. The clinic offers a wide range of low-cost preventative, therapeutic and educational services, including cleanings, dental sealants, X-rays, individualized oral health instruction and more. This time of the semester often brings increased stress and sickness. Luckily, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) can help you create or maintain a balanced lifestyle or just serve as a sounding board about stressors in your life by speaking with a professional. Office visits are $10, but students in need will never be turned away if they are unable to pay.

TRIO Disability Support Services (DSS) provides academic support and resources to students with disabilities. Services include personalized advising, tutoring, financial aid/scholarships and much more. Attend the come-and-go “Buying vs. Leasing Cars” workshop by Shocker Financial Wellness from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1 in 142 Rhatigan Student Center, Harvest Room.

Students who attend three of the first four workshops this semester and complete one budgeting appointment with a peer coach are entered in a drawing for a free spring tuition scholarship. The scholarship is non-renewable and in-state value only.

Study Abroad Fair on Tuesday, October 7th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. RSC 1st floor

The annual Study Abroad Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7 on the first floor of the Rhatigan Student Center. Come to learn more about study abroad programs, scholarships and more.

There will be over 20 tables set up with information that have students on hand to share about their experiences. For those who attend, they can be entered to win prizes, including study abroad scholarships. For questions, contact studyabroad@wichita.edu.
