Jeremy Hill

Jeremy Hill who has worked at the Barton School of Business’s Center for Economic Development and Business Research (CEDBR) as the director since 2009, will step down from his role at Wichita State University effective June 30 to pursue a new career opportunity. Dr. Chris Broberg, associate dean faculty and research in the Barton School, will serve as interim director while a search for a permanent successor is conducted.

Under Hill’s leadership, CEDBR has achieved remarkable growth and resilience, transitioning services, expanding the annual Wichita Economic Outlook conference to over 700 participants, and enhancing the center’s research capabilities to include vital economic indices and forecasts for the entire state. These accomplishments have significantly contributed to the depth of economic analysis and decision-making across Kansas.

“Jeremy has been instrumental in redefining how economic data and forecasts impact not only businesses but also policy-making in the region,” said Chris Broberg at the Barton School. “While his leadership will be greatly missed at the center, we are excited about potential collaborations within him in the near future.”

Professor Michael Birzer

As compared to white drivers, a Black driver is five times as likely to be stopped by a police officer. Black citizens report being stopped more frequently for minor violations: forgetting to use their blinker, a cracked windshield, a broken taillight. These frequent stops have real, often serious implications on the mental wellbeing of Black citizens, potentially leading to anxiety and short-term PTSD.

Known as racial profiling, this phenomenon has considerable importance to scholars across the nation, including Michael Birzer, professor of criminal justice.

Resources could include a $1,000 scholarship, a re-orientation to WSU, proactive awarding of the Associate of Arts degree (if eligible), monthly success conversations with the OAL Specialist and individualized support from the Shocker Comeback Team. Those on campus starting Thursday, May 23 will notice an influx of visitors. We expect nearly 35,000 high school athletes and spectators on campus through Saturday, May 25 for 5A state baseball and softball (May 23-24) and state track (May 24-25).

For the state track events, tents and golf carts will be deployed across campus to assist visitors, but anyone who notices someone looking lost can use the information on the WSU state events webpage to guide our guests to the resources they need.

Participants and spectators for state events can also rest and relax at Wichita State Connect (formerly the Wonder School) May 24-25, where visitors can find air-conditioned resting areas, crafts and yard games, which are sponsored by Scheels, between events and throughout the day.

During these events, faculty and staff should plan accordingly for increased traffic on campus and closure of Perimeter Road north of Shocker Hall, near Cessna Stadium.
