College rivalries are fun, and sometimes heated, on the courts and fields. Outside of the stadiums, athletic conferences often work together to benefit students in academics, research, mental health and career opportunities.

In that spirit, Sara Muzzy and Kim Kufahl of Shocker Career Accelerator organized the AAC Virtual Career Fair 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Oct. 28 . All 11 full members of the American Athletic Conference will participate (although the event is not connected to the athletic departments or conference).

The Office of Engagement lead efforts to ensure Wichita State had a presence during the 2021 Riverfest Parade. During previous years, the parade is held in the summer. Due to the pandemic, the parade was held in October, which made it easier for WSU to be involved.

In addition to moving the month, the events of the parade itself were adjusted. Instead of lining the street and watching the parade pass by, attendees remained in their cars and drove by the parade entries, which were lined up on both sides of Main Street in downtown Wichita. Shocker Sound Machine, the WSU Dance Team, the Shift Space student group and the Office of Engagement staff all attended and lined up on Main Street during the paradeAlong with highlighting WSU groups during the parade Shocker Sound Machine won the best band and a $500 check.

The Office of Admissions also provided the first 200 cars that drove through the reverse parade with a goody bag including information about Wichita State.

To aid local businesses, prospective students and partners interested in data analytics academic offerings at Wichita State University, WSU has launched a new analytics programs page that features capsules of all of the related programs on one page.

Lauryn McIntyre is learning how to build a brand that helps HSI Wealth Strategies get the word out to people in the aviation industry that HSI understands their financial needs.

“Very pilot-centric, very pilot-focused,” she said. “I’ve learned a lot about the aviation industry in my time there.”

McIntyre, a Wichita State University senior, worked with a designer to create an HSI logo that invokes aviation. She also organizes the HSI’s marketing plan, networks with pilots and updates the website to highlight the firm’s expertise.
