The College of Engineering is hosting a pre-commencement reception from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13 in Devlin Hall. Graduates from the college and their families are invited to enjoy refreshments and mingle with staff and faculty.

The previous day, all university graduates are invited to participate in the Commencement Cruise at 3 p.m. in Lot 1 and The Toast at 5 p.m. on the Hubbard Hall east lawn.

Faculty, staff, students and Wichita State partners are invited to a biomedical humanities organizational meeting from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 1 in the 262 Rhatigan Student Center, Herrman Room.

Biomedical humanities includes a wide range of scholarship, coursework and service. The following is a list of just some of the Biomedical Humanities work already in progress at WSU. Join and add additional interests to the list and help it organize and plan events for the 2023-24 academic year.

The Shocker Career Accelerator is hosting two on-campus job fairs over the summer. The first is from 1 to 3 p.m. July 28 and the second is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 25. Both events will be hosted in the Rhatigan Student Center Beggs Ballroom.

These events allow Wichita State offices and departments to connect with undergraduate and graduate students interested in applying for open positions.

On Thursday, May 11, Usha Haley, W. Frank Barton Distinguished Chair in International Business at the Barton School and the board of the World Trade Council of Wichita (WTCouncil) invite the community to its final dinner program of the academic year.

Mexico is the focal country of this event, and the Consul General of Mexico is the featured speaker.  Mexico is Kansas’s largest trading partner and in December, overtook Canada to become the U.S.’s largest trading partner. WTCouncil will open World Trade Week as has been traditional with an announcement through the governor’s and mayor’s proclamations. It will also announce this year’s recipients of the Dharma de Silva Study Abroad Scholarship, sponsored by the de Silva family and the WTCouncil for WSU students. WTCouncil annually sponsors about 11 students for study abroad.

As part of 1A’s Remaking America, KMUW will present a special edition of Engage ICT on the future of higher education at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 9 at Roxy’s Downtown, 412 E. Douglas Ave. 1A host Jenn White will guest host the event.

KMUW’s monthly book club features selections made by its staff. For May, KMUW is reading “The Last Animal” by Ramona Ausubel.

Participants will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 17 at KMUW for a group discussion over dinner and drinks. Dinner is provided by Public, and guests are invited to bring a beverage to share with the group.

Zach Gearhart, chief of staff, will update faculty and staff on legislative issues raised related to Wichita State from the Kansas state government.

The meeting is open to all faculty and staff every other Friday in the Morrison Hall board room. The next meeting is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 2.
