Join the Shockers Vote! Coalition for a USD 259 School Board forum from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25 in 211 Hubbard Hall. The forum is a partnership with the the Shockers Vote! Coalition, Wichita Beacon, Loud Light and the League of Women Voters.

All candidates for the USD 259 School Board races have been invited. The forum will provide an opportunity for each candidate to answer a series of questions, and the candidates will be allowed 90 seconds for their answers as well as introductory and closing remarks. Content for the question has come from Wichita State students as well as from Wichita Beacon readers, who were invited to submit questions in September.

The forum will be moderated by Sophie Martins, student body vice president.

Join Dr. Karen Kelsky, from “The Professor Is In,” to learn about all aspects of the academic job search from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25 via Zoom.

The workshop will cover the real conditions of the job market, what search committees look for, how to build a competitive record, and an examination of job documents, interviews and negotiating.

College of Applied Studies students are invited to attend a scholarship application session for the next academic year from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 9 in 266 Rhatigan Student Center, Pike Room.

There will be expert assistance to help students fill out scholarships. Come hungry for success and pizza at the event at no additional charge. Students should bring their laptops to the session.

The Center for Entrepreneurship invites Shockers Clash Build Cash from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 15 on the first floor of the Rhatigan Student Center.

Clash Build Cash offers an unparalleled opportunity to develop and demonstrate a wide range of essential professional skills, including strategic decision-making, adaptability and innovative thinking. Students of any academic background are welcome to participate in the multiplayer business simulation game hosted on Venture Valley.

A Study Abroad Info Session is the first step to studying abroad and provides a general overview of the study abroad process and programs.

The Ulrich Museum of Art will host International Rescue Committee (IRC) staff from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26 in the Beren Gallery.

Those interested in learning ways to help refugees who are coming to Wichita can learn more about volunteering and internship opportunities with the IRC at the drop-in informational session.

There will be a faculty panel discussion on “German Universities Under the Nazis and the Betrayal of the Humanities” from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25 Marcus Welcome Center.

Panelists from the history, philosophy and anthropology departments will examine how their respective disciplines navigated the Nazi era, and there will be open discussion of the topic’s relevance for universities today.

A reception will follow the discussion, and the event is open to the public at no additional charge.

Wichita State employees who reached a service milestone between the dates of Sept. 2, 2022 and Sept. 1, 2023 will be honored at events hosted by the university in October and November.

The event for honorees celebrating milestones of five to 20 years of service with the State of Kansas will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30 in 305/306 Rhatigan Student Center, Beggs Ballroom. The event is open to all employees to attend and celebrate with their colleagues who are honorees. RSVP by Monday, Oct. 23 if you will attend the event.

The event for honorees celebrating milestones of 25-50 years of service with the State of Kansas, Bender of Twigs (25 years dedicated to Wichita State) and those having retired from the university will be held Thursday, Nov. 9. This is an invitation only dinner event for honorees and their guest.

Bike enthusiasts among the Cohen Honors College faculty invite the community to experience fall on the Redbud Trail at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19.

Attendees will meet in front of the John Bardo Center for an hour of biking or walking. Students, faculty, staff and friends are all welcome to join.

Student Government Association, presents the 3rd Annual Diversity Week, A Different World: Learn from Others and Value Everyone

Student Government Association is proud to present the third annual Diversity Week, starting Monday, Oct. 30. The week is designed to not only increase student engagement on campus, but also decrease incidences of bias, harassment and discrimination.

Diversity Week is in partnership with several offices and student organizations and offers programs and experiences that build an inclusive culture amongst the student body at Wichita State. This year’s theme is “A Different World: Learn from Others and Value Everyone (L.O.V.E.).”

During Diversity Week, the SGA will highlight religion, self value (identity), tradition and ability. SGA will also focus on loving, valuing, respecting and finding belonging within each other.
