Join Counseling and Psychological Services for its third annual Suspenders4Hope 5k and One-Mile Memorial Walk to benefit StopSuicideICT Saturday, Sept. 30.

Registration and check-in begin at 8:30 a.m., with the 5k starting at 9 a.m.. The race is an official, certified course on Wichita State’s campus and will begin in the Steve Clark YMCA parking lot. Following the race, several speakers and awards will be given.

The event will conclude with a One-Mile Memorial Walk in honor of those who lost their lives to suicide. All registrants for the run and walk will receive a race T-shirt.

NASA’s International Space Apps hackathon is coming to Wichita State’s National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) Oct. 6-8.

NASA invites coders, entrepreneurs, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, artists and technologists to come together in a global hackathon. Over the course of three days, participants from around the world will create in-person and virtual teams to solve challenges using NASA’s open-source data.

Space Apps, which started in 2012, is the largest annual global hackathon in the world. This year’s event theme is Make SPACE, celebrating the motto “there’s always space for one more.”

Space Apps is for everyone. The competition is open to all passionate problem solvers of all ages: students, faculty, staff, experts, engineers, makers, artists and storytellers. While some of the challenges are technical, others require the use of artistic ability, business acumen and historical imaginations. In other words, you do not need to be a coder or data expert to be a part of Space Apps. In fact, the most diverse teams are often the most successful.

The deadline to register for the Wichita event is Sunday Sept. 24. The hackathon is hosted by, and on location at, the NIAR’s Advanced Technologies Lab for Aerospace Systems (ATLAS), 4174 S. Oliver, building 140H.

Join Women in Public Service (WPS) from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5 in the Marcus Welcome Center for its fall luncheon with keynote speaker Misty Bruckner, director of the Public Policy and Management Center

WPS members get admission at no additional charge. Admission for non-members is $20, or $15 for first-time attendees.

Williams is an insightful comedian who makes rapid-fire jokes based on real personal struggles with making friends, dating, family drama and following your dreams while encountering various pitfalls and awkward moments along the way.

Admission is at the door and is available to students with a Shocker ID at no additional charge, $5 for faculty and staff, and $8 for the public. Cash or card is accepted.

The Barton School of Business will host its latest James P. Schwartz Speaker Series event on how to harness the transformational impact of analytics and artificial intelligence (AI). The event will occur from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28 at the Woolsey Hall Auditorium. It will consist of a keynote panel discussion featuring industry experts in analytics and AI. The panel discussion is open to the public and offers a networking opportunity for attendees following the formal event.

The WTCouncil’s keynote with Fahad Nazer, official spokesperson for Saudi Arabia to the United State, has been postponed to Wednesday, Sept. 27. The presentation will now be at 8 p.m. at the Wichita Country Club, 8501 E. 13th St. North, with time for networking at 6 p.m. and a dinner at 7 p.m. Dress is business casual and reservations are required.

Additionally, the first IBSA event, “Cocoa, Coffee and Jobs with Deloitte,” will be between 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25 in 231/232 Woolsey Hall. Deloitte Consulting is on the WTCouncil’s board of directors and will speak to students about job opportunities in international business and the skills, project expertise and courses they are looking for. A panel of speakers from Deloitte will take students through the process of consideration for a job or internship at Deloitte. Students should come with questions. Stay tuned for more information. Students can attend at no additional charge, but registration is required. Business casual attire is suggested, but not required.

Celebrate Constitution Week 2023 with events about democracy and civic engagement. Dr. Neal Allen, associate professor of political science, will discuss “Supreme Court Term Limits:  Constitutional Reform for a Polarized U.S.” from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Sept. 20 in 265 Rhatigan Student Center, Lucas Room.

The Shocker Vote Coalition will hold a voter registration drive from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18 the RSC Atrium and a celebration of National Voter Registration Day from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Sept. 19 on the RSC North Patio.

Students interested in interning in the WSU Washington, D.C./Topeka Internship Program can attend drop-in info sessions from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 19 in 256 RSC and 3:30-4:30 p.m. Sept. 20 in 417 Lindquist Hall.

The Business Student Success Center invites all students, staff and faculty to visit Woolsey Hall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 19-20 for a university-wide resource fair.

This is an opportunity to check out the new amenities including student study spaces and resources on campus. There will be over 16 organizations represented at the resource fair to assist students in learning more about social engagement opportunities, career opportunities, academic support, financial information and more.

Shockers can share their love of Wichita State with their families by inviting them to attend Family Weekend Sept. 22-23.

A special schedule of events has been created to show families what campus life at WSU is all about. The two-day weekend includes Family Fest, Wu’s Waffle Feed, President’s Garden tour, college specific programs and a night T Chicken ‘n Pickle hosted by WSU Foundation and Alumni Engagement.

Registration is required and includes access to signature events, meals and more. Advance registration begins at $30 for the entire family.

Visit the Ulrich Museum crew during Open Streets ICT from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17 at their booth at Chainlink Gallery Place, 121 E. Douglas, for make-it-take-it art projects and to build a bowl for the Empty Bowls Fundraiser.

Open Streets ICT gives the community a chance to enjoy entertainment, explore businesses and organizations, and check out fun vendors and food trucks along Douglas Avenue from Bluff to Glenn Streets.
