Thursdays in November, drop in to the Collection Study Center at the Ulrich Museum of Art any time from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to catch documentary films about transformative artists of modern times. A different film will screen on a loop each date. Admission is open to everyone.

  Black Art: In the Absence of Light (2021): A compelling introduction to the work of some of the foremost African-American visual artists, including Theaster Gates, Kerry James Marshall, Faith Ringgold, Amy Sherald and Carrie Mae Weems, inspired by the exhibition “Two Centuries of Black American Art.” Directed by Sam Pollard.

  All the Beauty and the Bloodshed (2022): The epic story of internationally renowned artist and activist Nan Goldin told through her slideshows, intimate interviews, ground-breaking photography and rare footage of her personal fight to hold the Sackler family accountable for the opioid crisis. Directed by Laura Poitras.
• Nov. 30
  Leaning into the Wind (2017): Follow artist Andy Goldsworthy on an exploration of his local environment and himself through ephemeral and permanent workings on the Scottish landscape, cities and his own body. Directed by Thomas Riedelsheimer.

Sponsored by the French Division of the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures, Pi Delta Phi will sell French home made goods from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7 in the Rhatigan Student Center.

Stop by table 19 for food, a quick lunch, and choose from a variety of French pastries, croissants, sandwiches, quiches and French baked-goods.

The Retention Fellows invites all students, instructors and faculty to its monthly Teaching Today series.

This month, the Retention Fellows will discuss ways to re-energize classed for the end of the semester. Come discuss how to keep students focused and excited so that they can finish strong at noon Friday, Nov. 10 in 233 Rhatigan Student Center. Snacks are provided but participants are welcome to bring their lunches.

Join the next Mental Health and Movement class starting at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 7 in the Steve Clark YMCA Studio, where participants will explore what makes practicing movement feel so hard, the benefits of moving their bodies and how to use the resources at the YMCA.

The four-week class is open to anyone at no additional charge and sponsored by the YMCA and HOPE Services. Participants will use light weights in the studio in this session.

Join The College of Health Professions (CHP) for a Healthcare Administrator Career Panel and hear from experienced administrators from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 via Microsoft Teams.

CHP is focused on helping people explore the field of healthcare administration and find their next career opportunity.

Join the Student Activities Council (SAC) from 8 to 11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 in the Heskett Gym for a multicultural dance party celebrating fall and winter holidays from around the world.

Wear a Halloween costume, a Christmas sweater or a saree, as long as attendees are ready to dance and celebrate diversity. Light refreshments will be provided, and remember to bring small and clear bags only.

The Military and Veteran Center will host an open house in honor of Veterans Day from Nov. 8 to Nov. 9 in Grace Wilkie Hall, with the opening ceremony for the event starting at 2 p.m. Nov. 8 on the front lawn at the flag pole.

Veterans should submit their name, branch of service and a photo (if one is available) so it can be included in the Veterans Day Tribute that will run in the center during the celebration. The information should be provided no later than Nov. 6 to Larry Burks, director of Military and Veteran Services, at larry.burks@wichita.edu. Come by and honor our veterans for their service to the nation. Light refreshments will be provided during the celebration event.

Join the Department of Geology and the student Geology Club from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8 in 266 Rhatigan Student Center, Pike Room to connect with companies in environmental sciences showcasing current and future job openings and internships at the Environmental Science Career Expo.

The expo is open to students across the university.

Organizations and companies planning to attend include: Enertech, GSI, Kansas Corporation Commission, Kansas Department of Health and the Environment, Kansas Department of Transportation, Kansas Geological Survey, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, SCS, TerraCon, Textron and US Geological Survey.

The Department of Geology, and certificate programs in environment and sustainability, and Geographic Information Systems will also be in attendance for any students interested in program opportunities.

Veterans Upward Bound would like to say thank you to all those that have served in the military for Veterans Day. It will have QuikTrip freebies from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8 at a table in the Rhatigan Student Center.

The next Academic Center for Biomedical and Health Humanities (HealthHum) meeting will focus on how the arts improve medical education and human health through approaches like Visual Thinking Strategies and narrative medicine. Faculty, staff, and students from all colleges are welcome. The meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17 in 500 Lindquist Hall or on Teams.
