Come de-stress with Student Conduct and Community Standards at its Coloring with Conduct event from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4 in the Shocker Hall lobby or from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7 in The Suites lobby.

This event can help take your mind off of finals with a fun and relaxing space to color to your hearts content. Students are invited to bring their own coloring pages, or use one of the many pages provided to use.

On view from Nov. 29 to Dec. 4 throughout all three floors of McKnight Art Center’s west side, Tanna Burchinal’s Studio Tools and Presentation students’ final exhibition, “Midnight Studio,” serves as a catalyst, fostering shared inspiration that illuminates the diverse experiences of young artists navigating the delicate balance between self-discovery and societal norms.

The exhibition offers diverse creative lenses within the 21st century, showcasing a broad spectrum of perspectives created through differing media and innovations.

The Asian Student Conference Dance (ASCD) will sell salmon and tuna onigiri from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29 in front of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Presented in conjunction with the exhibition, “Where We Belong: Refugee Stories from Wichita,” on display in the Beren Gallery at the Ulrich Museum through Dec. 7, join a film screening of “Midnight Traveler” at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2 in the CAC Theater.

Hassan Fazili and his family seek asylum when he is threatened by the Taliban in this powerful documentary that shows the hardships experienced by one refugee family as they flee for safety, making the film along the way. Presented in partnership with PBS Kansas.

Fairmount College faculty and staff who would like to take students for a short trip abroad should plan to attend the Travel Seminar Panel at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7 in 264 Rhatigan Student Center, Spencer Room.

Panelists will discuss how to set up and lead a travel seminar, ways to offer academic content for credit and how these types of experiences can change students’ lives.

Panel participants will include Carolyn Shaw, professor of political science; Fran Connor, associate professor of English; Eric Wilson, senior educator in communication; and Ann Burger, associate director of study abroad and exchange programs.

You are invited to gather at the fall 2023 Belonging Plaza from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29 on the north patio of the Rhatigan Student Center for a presentation by student members of the WSU Hispanic American Leadership Organization (HALO). Light refreshments will be served, and Kariana Massingill, volunteer coordinator of HALO, will share remarks at 1:30 p.m.

Researched and assembled by student members of HALO, Belonging Plaza will honor seven notable Latine alumni, faculty, staff and community members:

  • Elizabeth Chacón, first Hispanic graduate of the University of Wichita (1932).
  • Bobby Argumendo, aerospace engineering graduate (1957) and first Hispanic player in Shocker basketball history.
  • Eli Romero, first football player of Hispanic descent to play for the Shockers.
  • Gene and Yolanda Cemerena established the Shockers Adelante Scholars, an initiative to support minority students with high financial need.
  • Sara Mata, executive director of the Hispanic Serving Institution.
  • Ana Lazarin, serves as director of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives for the College of Engineering.

This program was organized by students from HALO with support from the Office of Diversity & Inclusion, the Ulrich Museum of Art, University Libraries, Special Collections and University Archives, and the Office of Hispanic Initiatives.

Belonging Plaza is a mobile monument and pop-up commemorative tool, created by the Office of Strategic Communications in collaboration with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. The plaza is designed to move to different locations on campus, allowing student and community groups to highlight a variety of historically underrepresented or marginalized trailblazers and communities.

ShiftSpace hopes everyone will join it for a participatory performance entitled “Remembrances” from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 at Fisch Haus, 524 S. Commerce St.

“Remembrances” is about remembering those lost, and ShiftSpace encourage everyone to participate. Participants should bring a photocopy of a loved one who have passed to add to a paper quilt that will be made throughout the event. “Remembrances” is inspired by the NAMES Project and is a celebration of loved ones, unity and memory.

Refreshments will be served.
