As part of Wichita State’s observance of Constitution Week, WSU students Nicole Bloomquist and Luke Wagle will present their summer research project on food deserts and taxpayer-funded economic development 2-3:15 p.m. Sept. 15 at Hubbard Hall (room 231) via Zoom, password 805677.

The event is free and open to the public and will include commentary from Jan Haberly, director of the Lord’s Diner, and Tim Norton. former Sedgwick County Commissioner.

Wichita State’s Graduate School and Graduate Student Council invites graduate students to join the next monthly social event 5:30 p.m. today, Sept. 10 at Shocker Sports Grill and Lanes.

The event will include billiards and darts with members of the school and council. Students who check-in will receive a drink ticket.

SGA Diversity Week International Student Panel: Connecting Cultures September 15 2:30-3:30 RSC 262 Wichita State University Wichita State Study Abroad.

As part of Wichita State’s Student Government Association’s Diversity Week Sept. 13-17,  the International Student Panel will host a discussion 2:30-3:30 Sept.15 at the Rhatigan Student Center (room 262).

The panel, titled Connecting Cultures, will feature international exchange students from four countries sharing their first impressions of the United States and how the experience has impacted their views on life here and at a U.S. college campus. A question-and-answer session will follow the discussion.

In observance of the 20th-anniversary commemoration of 9/11, Wichita State’s Military and Veteran Center will offer a banner for students, faculty and staff to pen messages of grief or comfort they wish to express in remembrance of the day from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the center’s location in Grace Wilkie Hall (room 105).

The banner will be permanently displayed as a constant reminder to the memory of those who lost their lives during the events of 9/11, as a symbol to never to forget the lives lost and the heroic efforts of all who paid the ultimate sacrifice in light of overwhelming odds.

Students who are contemplating a major in social work are invited to attend the fall 2021 orientation for Wichita State’s Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program and practicum lunch and learn noon-1 p.m. Sept. 16 at Lindquist Hall (room 535.)

During the event, faculty and staff from WSU’s BSW program will answer any questions you may have about the social work field and reveal the process of to becoming a social work major. Participants must bring their lunch.

The Wichita State Student Improv Club is back and it will host a meeting at 5:30 p.m. today in Wilner Auditorium (room 204).

Whether you’re completely new to the craft  or simply wanting to hone your skills, this is the club for you. Future meetings for the club will be determined later this week and will be featured in Shocker Blast.

Shocker Racing Baja Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) will host an open house 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept.12. at John Bardo Center (room 107). All majors are invited to attend.

Participants will learn more about Shocker Racing Baja SAE and enjoy free pizza and beverages. 

Wichita State students, faculty, and staff are invited to come out and dance at the fall 2021 Bollywood Night from 8 to 11:55 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Rhatigan Student Center’s Beggs Ballroom.

Bollywood Night offers students a chance to socialize and dance to the latest Bollywood songs played by a DJ.

The dress code is casual and smart casual. Closed-toe shoes are requested for men. Entry is limited.

The Criminal Justice Student Association (CJSA) will host its first meeting today at 3 p.m. via Zoom. The event will feature a speaker from the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training.

The CJSA is open to students of all majors and serves to provide students with resources, people, information and experience. In the meetings, members can expect to listen to guest speakers, have access to work opportunities and join in-person field trips.

The topics will encompass law enforcement, corrections, courts, forensic science, homeland security and the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC).
