Art+Feminism. Wikipedia Edit-a-thon. Wednesday, March 9th. Ulrich Museum of Art. 11 A.M. - 2 P.M. Lunch provided. Free and open to all.

The Ulrich Museum of Art will host an artist talk featuring Wichita-based artist Ann Resnick at 6 p.m. today, March 8. There will be a reception before at 5:30 p.m. The talk is free and open to the public.

Resnick has been making art for more than forty years. A pillar of contemporary art in Wichita, she has worked as a gallerist, activist and exhibiting artist to benefit the local community for 25 years. Shown nationally and internationally, much of her work has never been seen in Wichita. She will discuss her current exhibition, “Chapter & Verse,” with curator Ksenya Gurshtein. “Chapter & Verse” presents highlights of her artistic career going back to the 1990s. The exhibition is on display at the Ulrich Museum through May 7.

HIIT Training, HR ranges & Targets Lifting clinic March 11 at 1 p.m. This month learn how to set a target HR for your Training goal. How long to train for and how long the recovery should be between sets and workouts. A discussion of Bioenergetics and muscle physiology. Join andy sykes, MEd, CSCS, FNS, CPT on facebook live as he discusses equipment use.

Wichita State’s annual weight lifting competition Wu Lifts will take place 9 a.m.-1 p.m. March 27 at the Heskett Center weight room. Students are encouraged to sign up early through the WSU Campus Recreation app as there are only 30 participants that can be accepted for this competition. Registration is free of charge.

There will be medals for the top three male and female athletes in squat, bench-press and deadlift.  (ranking will use Wilk’s Coefficient).

Volunteers are also being requested for this event.

Dr. Laila Cure, a Wichita State assistant professor in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, will present about “Modeling and Analysis of Contemporary Work Systems” at 11 a.m. today, March 11 via Zoom.

This presentation will investigate the dynamics of various types of work systems using statistical modeling techniques. A work system is described as a productive system involving humans executing tasks over a period to meet performance expectations. The definition includes, but is not limited to repetitive systems, which are the basis of state-of-the-art-work analysis methods.

Cure received her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering at the University of South Florida in 2011. Her research focuses on the use of analytics and mathematical modeling techniques to understand and design operations involving humans interacting with technology in uncertain environments. Cure currently teaches Work Systems, Production Systems, Modeling and Analysis of Manufacturing Systems, and Data Analytics. She is also the faculty advisor for the Wichita State Student Chapter of the Association for Supply Chain Management.

The next Entrepreneurship Research Workshop (ERS) “Patent Basics for New Inventors” will take place 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8 at Ablah Library (Room 217, second floor). The workshop will introduce participants to different types of patents and applications, patent eligibility, parts of a patent, how to find free legal assistance, and patent searching. Registration for this workshop is free of charge.

Dr. John Huffman will return to the  Industrial, Systems, and Manufacturing Engineering Colloquium to discuss artificial neural systems for machine learning 11 a.m. today, March 4 via Zoom. His presentation will include a demonstration of an artificial neural system and will end with a question and answer session. The virtual event is open to all interested faculty, staff, and students.

Wichita State’s Math Circle will host a Pi-Day Celebration at 7 p.m. March 7 at Jabara Hall (Room 128). Math Circle is a program for middle and high school students. The event is for the middle and high school students, their families Faculty and staff with children or grandchildren grades 5-12 are also invited to attend.

Dr. Day Radebaugh, assistant professor of philosophy will discuss “Champlain Tower Collapse in Surfside Florida, 2021: The Canary in the Coal Mine?” at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. today at Ahlberg Hall (Room 201). Radebaugh will discuss the conundrum faced by the engineers who were charged with determining whether the building was safe or not. The event is free and open to the public.

The First-Year Seminar programs  will host an information session about how to teach a first-year seminar (FYS) beginning at 11 a.m. March 8 at the Rhatigan Student Center (RSC) (Room 261) and at 3 p.m. March 22 at the RSC (Room 256). The session will teach participants about creating and teaching an FYS class for first-year students.

Teaching an FYS is an excellent opportunity to introduce new students to a faculty member’s discipline and department, and it can help first-year students acclimate to Wichita State and improve their chances for academic success.
