Savvy Scholar Workshops SmartMapping with ArcGIS Online Smart mapping helps users build beautiful, informative maps with just a few clicks. 12-1 p.m., 10/21 - Online

This next Savvy Scholars workshop, SmartMapping with ArcGIS Online, will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 21 via Zoom.

Learn about how smart mapping helps users build beautiful, informative maps with just a few clicks. It can simplify the map-making process and can uncover the stories inside your data. It will be taught by geographic information systems educators Dr. Joseph Kerski and Mr. Mark Stewart of Esri.

The library will host the WSU Writing Center three afternoons a week this semester. The Writing Center sessions will be in Ablah Library Learning Center in room 125 2-5 p.m. Tuesdays, 2-4 p.m.  Wednesdays, and 2-5 p.m. Thursdays.

The upcoming Savvy Scholars workshop focuses on finding social data and is meant to unlock a wealth of social data to better understand demographic groups, large populations, and pressing social issues.

University Libraries’ Patent amd Trademark Resource Center (PTRC) will host a vareity of virtual workshops during October. These workshops will include the following:

  • 2022 Hispanic Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program: Learn free and valuable resources available to Hispanic inventors and entrepreneurs 1-4 p.m. Oct. 12.
  • Blockchain and IP Series: USC 101 Patent Eligibility in Blockchain: This event will feature a lively discussion regarding patent eligibility within the inventive blockchain space 4-5 p.m. Oct. 18.

Savvy Scholar Workshops Systematic Reviews Learn what systematic reviews are (and aren’t), and how to read and interpret them. 12-1 p.m., 10/7 - Online

The next Savvy Scholar workshop will take place noon-1 p.m. Oct. 7 via Zoom. The workshop will discuss what systematic reviews are and are not, what makes them systematic, how you can read and interpret them, and how you can write them.

Open/Alternative Textbook (OAT) Initiative DEADLINE 9/30/22 There are now 2 options for course designations: OAT-ZERO Cost OAT-Low Cost

The deadline to apply for Open/Alternative Textbook (OAT) course designations is Sept. 30. The OAT program is designed to expand the use of freely-available resources in classes to help address the rising cost of textbooks and the impact of that expense on students.

Courses with an OAT designation are visible to students in the course schedule to help them choose classes with low or no textbook costs. The course fee associated with OAT course designations is no longer required.
