The fall 2022 Academic Convocation will take place at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8 at Wilner Auditorium. Academic Convocation is the official academic welcome for all first-year students. The event celebrates a new Shocker’s entry into higher education and inducts them into a community of learners.

This event will feature President Rick Muma and keynote speaker Kwame Onwuachi, author of the 2022 Common Read book “Notes from a Young Black Chef.” All 2022 University Faculty Award winners will also be recognized at the event.

A reception and book signing will follow the event at 10:20 a.m. on the second floor of the Ulrich Museum gallery. There will also be an informal question and answer session with Onwuachi featuring at live cooking session at 11:30 a.m. in Shocker Dining Hall.

First-Year Programs in Student Success and Campus Activities and Recreation will host Clash of the Colleges Friday, Aug. 26. The event will include relay races, team sports and other competitions between academic colleges to determine who rules the school. Come by yourself or with a group of other new students and enjoy an afternoon of interactive fun. All students are required to sign up with the RSVP form. Registration will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24.

Wichita State’s First-Year Programs in Student Success invites you to join a Syllabus Party 11 a.m.-1 p.m. tomorrow, Jan. 25 at the Rhatigan Student Center Harvest (Room 142). Bring your class syllabi and your planners (electronic or paper) and Student Success will provide the rest. Students who attend will receive supplies, goodies, light refreshments and valuable peer support from our Transition Mentors to help you get organized for the spring semester.

The event, which took place Sept. 2, included  presentations from Dr. Richard Muma, Wichita State president; Rija Khan, WSU Student Government Association president; and Dr. Nikki Keene Woods, Department of Public Health Services assistant professor.

The event also included a special virtual keynote address by Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, author of the Common Read “What the Eyes Don’t See.”

Congratulations to Wichita State’s College of Fine Arts for winning the 2021 Clash of the Colleges! Another competition award, the Spirit Award, was claimed by the Barton School of Business and the College of Engineering.

Wichita State’s First-Year Programs in Student Success and Campus Recreation hosted the seventh annual Clash of the Colleges Aug.20-27. More than 500 students and guests represented seven academic colleges.

The eighth annual Clash of the Colleges will take place on the first Friday of the fall 2022 semester, Aug. 26.

Join classmates, faculty and staff for this year’s Academic Convocation at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 2 at Wilner Auditorium. Wichita State’s Academic Convocation is an event that blends Wichita State University’s Common Read program with other student learning and engagement opportunities.

At this year’s event, winners of the 2021 University Faculty Awards will be recognized. It will also feature presentations from Dr. Richard Muma, WSU president; Rija Khan, WSU Student Government president; and Dr. Nikki Keene Woods, WSU Department of Public Health Services assistant professor.

All RSVP’ed students, please enter through the south gates at Cessna Stadium at 4 p.m., and wear your college color shirt. Please bring your WSU ID for check-in. Your college will also be hosting a pre-party before 4 p.m., and you can check in there as well.
