Graduate Student Welcome, 9-11:30 a.m., Friday, August 25, CAC Theater

Graduate students are invited to the upcoming Graduate Student Welcome event from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25 in the CAC Theater to learn about the vast amount of resources available on campus.

Students will hear more from the Graduate School and Student Affairs departments, such as Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, CARE Team, Student Conduct and Community Standards, Shocker Career Accelerator and more. Afterwards, attendees can head over to the Rhatigan Student Center for the on-campus job fair. Light refreshments will be provided.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is partnering with Center of Daring and Spectrum: LGBTQ & Allies to host “From Allyship to Advocacy: Supporting Our LGBTQ+ Communities” from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 12 in 261 Rhatigan Student Center.

Learn more about the recent legislation updates affecting LGBTQ+ rights across the country, while understanding how to move from allyship to advocacy to support LGBTQ+ communities.

Celebrate pride at Wichita State with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Spectrum: LGBTQ & Allies at PRIDE Prom.

The PRIDE Prom will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 15 in 233 Rhatigan Student Center. There will be food, a photo booth, music and more.

Join the night of fun in a safe space with friends and allies. Everyone is welcome to attend and prom attire is encouraged but not required.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) is proud to present the Diversity Lecture Series, a series that features distinguished leaders and experts to inspire campus dialogue, community engagement and learning about the national narrative on diversity and inclusion.

Saul Flores will speak at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 18 in 301 Rhatigan Student Center with his topic, “From Where I Stand,” to inspire first-generation and first-year college students and those of varying backgrounds to overcome their personal, academic and financial barriers in pursuit of a college education.

The speakers for the series include scholars, thought leaders and diversity professionals whose research, scholarship, leadership and advocacy enhance the university’s efforts to present diverse ideas, perspectives and viewpoints to inspire greater understanding and appreciation for diversity and inclusion.

9th Annual Lavender Graduation, A Celebration of our LGBTQ+ Graduates, 7 p.m. Friday, May 5 Rhatigan Student Center 233, RSVP @ wichita.edu/lavender

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Spectrum: LGBTQ and Allies will host the ninth annual Lavender Graduation at 7 p.m. May 5 in 233 Rhatigan Student Center.

This is a special ceremony honoring the achievements of graduating lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ+) students at Wichita State. Students have the option to be recognized openly or privately at the event.

To attend, students should RSVP by 11:59 p.m. May 1 to receive their lavender or rainbow cord.

The Stephanie Mott Living Authentically Award recognizes the leadership, vision and commitment of a faculty member, staff member or graduate assistant to the LGBTQ+ communities at Wichita State. This award was formerly known as the Harvey Milk Award.

Individuals are encouraged to nominate a deserving individual who has demonstrated a commitment to inclusive excellence. Nominations close at 11:59 p.m. Friday, March 31.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) and Spectrum: LGBTQ & Allies invite the campus community to honor the joy and resilience of transgender people everywhere. They encourage the community to raise their voice to speak out against hate and work to build an inclusive world from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 31 on the first floor of the Rhatigan Student Center.

Transgender Day of Visibility is observed annually every March 31. The day is dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of transgender and gender-nonconforming people while raising awareness of the work that still needs to be done to achieve trans justice.
