The School of Music is delighted to announce the winners of the 22nd annual Konrad Wolff-Ilse Bing Chamber Music Competition, held March 30 in Wiedemann Hall.

The Konrad Wolff-Ilse Bing Chamber Music Competition is administered by the School of Music in the College of Fine Arts and was established with a generous contribution from the Estate of Ilse Bing Wolff.

The School of Music is pleased to announce the winners of the 87th annual Naftzger Young Artists Auditions. Among the competitors, two Wichita State students were division winner and runner up.

Pulip Han, a soprano vocalist at WSU, was the vocal division winner; and Isabel Blakewell, a soprano vocalist from WSU, was the vocalist runner up. Each of the area winners received a $2,000 prize, and each runner up earned $500 in prizes.

Zachary Costello, a saxophonist from Eastman School of Music, is the 2025 Naftzger Young Artist, earning an award of $5,000. The remaining division winners from the weekend’s competition were Jiyeon Lee, pianist from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and Dylna Kinneavy, a cellist from the Yale School of Music. The remaining three division runners-up were Ethan Stahl, pianist from the University of Colorado-Boulder; Runqi Weng, violinist from Michigan State University; and Riley Bender, flutist from the University of Texas at Austin. The total prizes awarded were $13,000 overall.

While eight students eventually moved on to the finals, 64 students from all over the nation were invited to compete in the first round of the auditions. The finals recital took place at Wiedemann Hall March 23. Judges for the auditions were David Cangelosi, voice; Dr. Thomas Keck, SMU Meadows School of the Arts, winds/brass/percussion; Jodi Levitz, Frost School of Music at the University of Miam, strings; and Dr. Caorline Oltmanns from Youngstown State University.

The Naftzger Yong Artists Auditions and Music Awards are administered by Wichita State University’s School of Music and are made possible by The Naftzger Fund for Fine Arts, Inc. Created by the M.C. Naftzger in memory of L.S. Naftzger, Ida L. Naftzger and Lee Southwell Naftzger II. Continued support for these Awards come from Caesar and Michelle Naftzger.

The Women of WSU (WWSU), a philanthropic organization, raises money for scholarships that are awarded to WSU students every year. Join WWSU for bingo at noon Thursday, Feb. 13 in 262 Rhatigan Student Center, Herrman Room. Everyone is welcome.

There will be four games, and you may purchase up to three cards per game. Each card is $5 and proceeds will go towards WWSU scholarships. One winner of each game will select a prize.

Optional lunch is available for $14 or bring your own. Games begin at noon but lunch will be served starting at 11:30 a.m. If you would like to purchase a lunch, sign up for the option ends Feb. 10.

The Women of WSU invites you to play bingo from noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 30 in 262 Rhatigan Student Center. Each Bingo card is $5 and there will be four games (limit of three cards per game). Prizes will be awarded for winners in certain categories, including cross and blackout. Come mingle, eat, play and win.

Pre-order for the 11:30 a.m. lunch for $14 or bring your own. Money raised will be used for scholarships to WSU students.

Women of Wichita State University Membership Drive Tuesday, September 10 11:30 am-1:00 pm, at the President's House

Women of Wichita State University (WWSU) will host a membership drive from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10 at the President’s Residence. Light appetizers will be available. Members will also be modeling clothing from Chico’s.

WWSU’s purpose is to serve the university by providing student scholarships. It is dedicated to promoting the personal growth of its members through social interaction and fostering a sense of community through fellowship and the spirit of friendliness. Annual dues are $12.

Membership of WWSU is available to all female-identifying persons who meet any of the following conditions and who pay annual dues:

  • Current faculty, administrative, unclassified professional, university support staff and auxiliary employees of Wichita State.
  • Spouses of Wichita State faculty, administrative, unclassified professional (UP) and university support staff (USS).
  • Retirees and WWSU members whose active connection with the university has ended but who wish to retain or renew their membership are also eligible.

Activities are planned throughout the year and include Lunch and Learns, social events, fundraisers, a book club and more.

The Women of WSU will offer two $2,000 scholarships to enrolled WSU students for the 2024-25 academic year. The deadline for applications is April 15.

Women of WSU invites the campus community to come and play one, two or three games of bingo at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13 in 233 Rhatigan Student Center, Santa Fe Trail Room. Choose to play up to three cards per game, and each card is $5. Prizes include a bowling party with popcorn and a drink for eight people.

Players may bring their lunch or purchase a lunch for $14. All proceeds go to fund scholarships for Wichita State students.

It’s never too late to join the Women of WSU (WWSU). WWSU serves the university by providing student scholarships and providing opportunities for employees and spouses to connect across campus. Annual dues of $12 include the opportunity to join an interest group (book club, friends & food, lunch bunch, new members and theatre), to participate in social events held throughout the year and benefits the WWSU scholarship.

Membership in WWSU provides many opportunities to connect female-identifying WSU employees, WSU auxiliary employees and spouses with others who love WSU. Attend an event, join an existing interest group or start a new interest group. Members will receive more information about the Lunch & Learn event planned for Nov. 8 on campus, the holiday luncheon planned for Jan. 10 at the Wine Dive, and other day and evening events planned for spring and summer.
