In observance of the 20th-anniversary commemoration of 9/11, Wichita State’s Military and Veteran Center will offer a banner for students, faculty and staff to pen messages of grief or comfort they wish to express in remembrance of the day from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the center’s location in Grace Wilkie Hall (room 105).

The banner will be permanently displayed as a constant reminder to the memory of those who lost their lives during the events of 9/11, as a symbol to never to forget the lives lost and the heroic efforts of all who paid the ultimate sacrifice in light of overwhelming odds.

Wichita State’s Military and Veteran Services will host a celebration in honor of the U.S. Coast Guard’s 231st anniversary 3-4 p.m. Aug. 6 in Grace Wilke Hall (room 105).

The U.S. Coast Guard, founded Aug. 4, 1790, is the maritime security, search and rescue, and law enforcement service branch of the United States Armed Forces. It is one of the country’s eight uniformed services. The Coast Guard is a maritime, military, multi-mission service unique among the U.S. military branches for having a maritime law enforcement mission with jurisdiction in both domestic and international waters and a federal regulatory agency mission as part of its duties.

All students, faculty and staff are invited to share in the celebration.

This year marks 246 years of the U.S. Army serving and defending our country. No matter the challenges the Army has faced along with our nation, Soldiers and civilians have had the courage and patriotism to answer the call and serve.

Join the men and women of the Wichita State University family who are currently serving, or have served in the past, in this great institution of our freedom and democracy.
