About the speaker: David Levine is a senior fellow at UMD’s Center for Democracy and Civic Engagement, who works to ensure that eligible voters can vote, free and fair elections are perceived as legitimate, and election processes are properly administered and secured. He is also an election security adjunct professor at George Mason University, an advisory committee member for the Global Cyber Alliance’s Cybersecurity Toolkit for Elections, an advisory council member for The Election Reformers Network, a member of the Election Verification Network and a contributor to the Fulcrum. Previously, he worked as the senior elections integrity fellow at the German Marshall Fund’s Alliance for Securing Democracy, where he assessed vulnerabilities in electoral infrastructure, administration and policies. And before that he was the Ada County, Idaho Elections Director, managing the administration of all federal, state, county, and local district elections for 25% of the state’s population.

Wichita State’s largest one day volunteer event, Wu’s Big Event, is quickly approaching. Join your fellow Shockers for a morning of volunteering throughout the community Saturday, Feb. 8. Individuals, groups, organizations, students, staff and faculty are all invited to attend. Check-in for Wu’s Big Event will be from 8:30 to 8:50 a.m.

The kick-off will begin at 9 a.m. in 305/306 Rhatigan Student Center, Beggs Ballroom with a breakfast and kick-off celebration. Participants will then load the buses and be at a service site by 10 a.m. Volunteers will work until noon and return to Hubbard Hall for lunch and closing festivities.

The event will end by 1:30 p.m. Transportation to and from service sites is provided. Light Breakfast, lunch, water and T-shirt also provided.

Applications are still being accepted for the 2025 Alternative Spring Break from March 16-21 in Chicago, Illinois. Alternative Spring Breaks give students an opportunity to gain experience about the unique needs of an area and travel that that location to volunteer for a week.

This year we will travel to Chicago to volunteer with organizations that serve causes related to youth, education, poverty and homelessness. The trip cost is $175 per person and includes transportation, lodging and food. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22.

At the meeting, members will discuss the Get Out the Vote and Election Day celebration plans. They will also provide information about getting involved with the student-led Shockers Vote Coalition.
