Phase One of the Wichita Biomedical Campus, being built in the heart of downtown Wichita, now has its official look.

Renderings created by Helix Architecture + Design and CO Architects show the 8-story, 350,000-square-foot building that features a 3-story pavilion, classrooms, labs, student success center, lounges and study spaces, offices and meeting spaces.

This marks the first phase of the joint health sciences project between Wichita State University and the University of Kansas. Once built, the Wichita Biomedical Campus will combine WSU’s College of Health Professions and Speech-Language-Hearing ClinicWSU Tech’s health care program and Wichita campuses of KU School of Medicine and KU School of Pharmacy into one location.

Kansas NSF EPSCoR is hosting a webinar with Dr. Dan Andresen, program director for NSF CISE/CNS at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1 and the WSU Office of Research will host a live viewing of the webinar and discussion after the webinar to enable possible collaborations in 256 Rhatigan Student Center, Edmiston Room.

The Barton School of Business Undergraduate Student Success Center is now hiring for an academic advisor position: Student success and retention coordinator.

The position will advise students concerning their academic plans, progress, and academic and career goals in order to assist students in making personal education decisions and meeting graduation requirements.

Scholarship Universe Open Labs College of Health Professions

Health professions students can join the College of Health Professions’s Scholarship Universe Open Labs to work on your fall 2024/spring 2025 applications. Labs are come-and-go, and the scholarship coordinator will be on-hand to answer questions.

Open labs will be held on the following dates and times in 100A Ahlberg Hall:

  • 9-10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19
  • 11 a.m.-noon Monday, Jan. 22
  • noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23

The Office of Online & Adult Learning is now accepting nominations for the Adult Learner of the Year (ALOTY) Awards Ceremony. The ALOTY Award is given to an adult learner in recognition of their achievements and dedication to reaching their academic goals.

Submit a nomination for the ALOTY Award.

In addition to the ALOTY Award, the ceremony will include four new awards you can nominate individuals for:

  • Service Award — Recognizes an adult learner who exemplifies what it means to be service-oriented through studies, work or personal life.
  • Research Award — Recognizes an adult learner who has completed exceptional work in undergraduate research.
  • Applied Learning Award — Recognizes an adult learner who has excelled through their applied learning experience.
  • Leadership Award — Recognizes an adult learner who exemplifies leadership, either through studies, work or personal life.

Another recognition that will be awarded is the Support System Award. This award differs from the others because the student will be the one to recognize their support system.

  • Support System Award — Recognizes an adult learner’s support system that has encouraged them along their academic journey.­

Students celebrating on campus with the text Black & Yellow Day

On Monday, Feb. 19, the Office of Admissions will host Black & Yellow Day. Each semester, Admissions invites high school juniors, seniors and college transfer students to the all-day event on campus where they have the chance to participate in sessions hosted by each academic college, tour campus and explore the applied learning opportunities available at Wichita State. The event is $15 per student and $5 per guest and includes lunch in Shocker Dining.
