Health professions students can join the College of Health Professions’s (CHP) ScholarshipUniverse Open Lab from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12 in 100A Ahlberg Hall. This is a great opportunity to work on your fall 2024/spring 2025 applications. The lab is come-and-go, and the scholarship coordinator will be on-hand to answer questions.

A grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) will help the Ulrich Museum of Art celebrate the Martin H. Bush Outdoor Sculpture Collection as part of the museum’s 50th anniversary special programming.

“Fully Dimensional: Artists of the Outdoor Sculpture Collection” is a multimedia exhibition at Wichita State University that celebrates 35 artists of the sculpture collection and explores elements of their larger bodies of work.

It is supported by a $10,000 grant from the NEA Challenge America awards.

WSU Math Circle kicks off its meetings for the spring semester at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11 in 372 Jabara Hall with a presentation from Dr. Robert Fraser, assistant professor of math, for middle school students.

Math Circles are education enrichment and outreach groups that bring mathematicians and mathematical scientists into direct contact with pre-college students. These students meet with math professionals in an informal setting, after school or on weekends, to work on interesting problems or topics in mathematics. The goal is to get the students excited and passionate about mathematics.

Middle school students should bring a completed registration and consent form from the Math Circle website.

Enthusiasm is building as the powerhouse team behind the 2024 Tilford Conference is announced, a vibrant celebration of diversity, equity and inclusion at Wichita State. It is delighted to unveil the distinguished Statewide Advisory Committee Representatives, a pair of exceptional individuals who will shape the transformative event:

These accomplished professionals will play a pivotal role in crafting an inspiring and impactful Tilford Conference, with over 500 attendees expected to participate. The event is scheduled to take place at Wichita State Oct. 3-4.

Encourage students to attend the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships’s ScholarshipUniverse support event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6 in 257 Rhaitgan Student Center, Ashton/Bridges Room, to help them optimize their 2024-25 applications on its platform.

It will share tips and tricks for unlocking every scholarship dollar. Students should bring a laptop.

Holidays for State of Kansas employees are designated on an annual basis by the governor of the State of Kansas and the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) for eligible employees.

The following dates have been designated as paid holidays for all departments of Wichita State for the 2024 calendar year. This information is available online at any time.

  • Discretionary Day*
  • New Year’s Day – Monday, Jan. 1
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – Monday, Jan. 15
  • Memorial Day – Monday, May 27
  • Juneteenth – Wednesday, June 19
  • Independence Day – Thursday, July 4
  • Labor Day – Monday, Sept. 2
  • Veterans Day – Monday, Nov. 11 (classes are in session on this day)
  • Thanksgiving Day – Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29
  • Christmas Day – Wednesday, Dec. 25

*The discretionary day must be used during the payroll calendar year. For 2024, it must be utilized between Dec. 24, 2023 and Dec. 21, 2024. This paid leave benefit is used for observance of a holiday, family event or other special day. Employees who work a Monday through Friday schedule should plan to use their discretionary day on or before Friday, Dec. 20, 2024.

Employees will not be paid for the discretionary day in lieu of taking the time off, and the banked hours expire at the end of each payroll year. Employees will use standard leave request procedures to seek leader approval in advance of taking the discretionary day.

The 2024 Winter Closedown period has not yet been developed and approved by university leadership. Once that has been completed, the schedule will be communicated to ensure all employees can manage their time off appropriately.

Duane Nagel, Senior Associate Dean of the Barton School of Business

The Barton School of Business is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Duane Nagel as its senior associate dean. In this role, Nagel will oversee the successful implementation of the school’s strategic plan and related key initiatives, manage undergraduate and graduate programs, lead efforts to maximize on its enrollments, advance faculty and research affairs, among other key areas. His collaborative efforts with Dr. Larisa Genin, dean of the Barton School, and other key leaders will focus on identifying areas for enhancement and innovation across these domains.

“Exemplifying an extraordinary blend of talents and skill sets, Duane is the ideal candidate for this position,” Genin said. “His steadfast commitment to excellence and nuanced understanding of the Barton School will play a pivotal role in propelling innovation and contributing to the prosperity of our school.”

Before his appointment as the senior associate dean, Duane served as the chair of the Department of Marketing at the Barton School. Since assuming the role in the fall of 2022, Duane has led the department through an impressive period of growth, witnessing a remarkable surge in enrollment by nearly 25%, among many other accomplishments related to modernizing the curriculum and forging crucial industry connections.
