Bring your families and join the Student Activities Council (SAC) for a showing of the movie, “Trolls,” at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 23 in the CAC Theater.

With admission there will be popcorn, cotton candy, bingo and a fun Trolls headband craft for the whole family to enjoy. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the movie will start around 6:15 p.m.

Wichita State Baseball Weekend Series vs Long Beach State

Wichita State plays host to Long Beach State Friday through Sunday, March 8-10 at Eck Stadium. Saturday is WSU Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day, meaning those with a employee Shocker ID can redeem a ticket to the game at the Eck Stadium Box Office at no additional charge.

For all other Shocker Baseball games, faculty and staff receive $6 GA tickets throughout the season.

On Thursday, March 14, the Consul General of Canada, Sylvain Fabi, will speak on “Kansas and Canada: Partners in Trade” at a dinner program from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Thursday, March 14 at the Wichita Country Club, 8501 E. 13th St. N. The program is sponsored by the World Trade Council of Wichita, Center for International Business Advancement at the Barton School of Business and the International Business Studies Association

Canada and the USA have the world’s second-largest trading relationship with huge quantities of goods, services and people flowing across our respective borders annually. The countries are also key allies and defense partners, collaborating closely to tackle international crises and to defend our shared values abroad. In addition to these general ties, the Consul General will also address Kansas’s role in this relationship.

The 2024 Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Forum (URCAF) is seeking faculty, staff and community volunteers to judge during the poster session April 12 in the Rhatigan Student Center.

The URCAF Committee is counting on volunteers to serve as judges. This is a great opportunity to engage with Wichita State undergraduate students and learn about the exciting research students are engaging in across campus.

Join Zach Gearhart, chief of staff and executive director of government relations, for updates on the Kansas legislature relevant to Wichita State. The next meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, March 8 in 101 Morrison Hall.

The meeting is open to all faculty, staff and students and is held every other Friday in Morrison Hall following each legislative session.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion welcomes Latasha N. Eley Kelly, Ph.D., who will host a workshop titled “Beyond a Reasonable Doubt: Overturning Impostor Syndrome” from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday, March 21 in 233 Rhatigan Student Center, Santa Fe Trail Room.

The workshop is designed to engage students with an innovative, high-level legal framework for re-evaluating competence, reducing self-doubt and scrutinizing the evidence against self-perceived fraudulence.

Only 30 seats are available for the event.

Mental Health Advocate: School of Social Work

Suspenders4Hope, a program developed at Wichita State University, is highlighting different departments and individuals on campus who are advocates for mental health in hopes that their stories will inspire others to continue supporting one another in the community.

The WSU School of Social Work (SSW) is being recognized for its support of the mental health of students, faculty, staff and health care professionals.

Four undergraduate students from Wichita State University were among the 18 students recognized at the 22nd annual Kansas IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (K-INBRE) Symposium in Manhattan, Kansas.

The WSU students who were recognized:

Students attend the 2024 LAS Dean's Honor Roll event

More than 1,000 Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences students earned a spot on the fall 2023 Dean’s Honor Roll.

The students, who completed at least 12 graded credit hours with a 3.5 grade point average, were celebrated at a special event March 4. Each person was recognized individually and received a certificate for their accomplishment. They will have access to photos of their department cohort next week.

“This was a joyful occasion celebrating with our students their remarkable progress so far,” said Andrew Hippisley, dean of Fairmount College. “To make it onto the dean’s honor roll means ‘full speed ahead’ toward graduating, and graduating strongly.”

Archaeologists studying coastal erosion in Georgia

Matt Howland, assistant professor of anthropology and archaeology, is using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software to model how such coastal change and damage could occur. GIS is used to record, store, analyze, visualize and interpret geographic data and has become an important technological tool for archaeologists, particularly in determining changes across landscapes.
