Excellence award nominations are being accepted by the Office of Research

Nominations for Excellence Awards in Research, Creativity Activity and Community Research are now being accepted by the Office of Research.

All full-time faculty, including distinguished professors and endowed chairs, who have served at WSU for at least three years are eligible. Faculty who hold an administrative position above that of chair are not eligible.

Previous winners of the award are ineligible to be nominated for a period of five years following the award. See the Office of Research website for additional details and online nomination forms. Nominations must be received by Dec. 6 to be considered.

WISE Clinic director appointed to the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board Counseling Advisory Committee

Dr. Mahsa Maghsoudi, assistant professor of counseling and WISE Clinic cirector, has been appointed to the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB) Counseling Advisory Committee. The role of the Counseling Advisory Committee is to support the BSRB board in carrying out its mission to protect the public.

The Counseling Advisory Committee also addresses issues referred to the committee by the BRSB board regarding the practice of licensed professional counseling in the state of Kansas.

Provide a holiday gift through Salvation Army Angel Tree

Provide a holiday gift for a local child or adult through The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, hosted by the Shocker Store. The program will be a hybrid this year, with the angel selection process being online but the gifts being returned in store.

If you are interested in sponsoring a child or adult, visit the RSC Angel Tree program website and create an account to select an angel from the Shocker Store virtual Angel Tree. Once you claim that angel, purchase a suggested gift listed for that individual and bring it back to the Shocker Store (either RSC or Braeburn Square location) by Tuesday, Dec. 3. Gifts should be unwrapped, new and clearly labeled with your angel’s name and angel number.

Science on Tap is back, featuring a presenter from WSU’s biology department

Evalynn Trumbo, CRP research project manager in the Department of Biological Sciences, will present “Grassland Management and Its Impacts on Grassland Birds” at this month’s Science on Tap at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Social Tap Drinkery.

Science on Tap is hosted at Social Tap Drinkery in Braeburn Square on the Innovation campus on the second Tuesday of the month.

Chemistry and biochemistry hosting seminar speaker Pierre Thibault from University of Montreal Nov. 13

Join the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry for its next weekly seminar at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 13 in 224 McKinley Hall where Pierre Thibault from the University of Montreal will present a talk titled, “Beyond the Lamppost – The Quest for Elusive Tumor Antigens.”

Attend an informational meeting about Shocker Pre-Season Programs from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13 in 245 Rhatigan Student Center, CUW Room, to learn how your office, unit or department can develop a Shocker Pre-Season Program for fall 2025.

Shocker Pre-Season Programs provide an opportunity to assist incoming students transition smoothly into college life at WSU. These programs are a key part of WSU’s student success and persistence initiative as they provide intentional pathways to help students learn about, select and transition between majors. Attend the annual Engineering Research Symposium Nov. 15

The annual Engineering Research Symposium will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 at the Digital Research and Transformation Hub. Hosted by the College of Engineering Graduate Ambassadors, this poster competition is an opportunity for the WSU community to explore innovative engineering ideas.

The event is open to all WSU students, faculty, staff and anyone interested in engineering. Participants can connect with fellow engineering scholars, faculty and industry professionals, providing a forum to share findings, engage in insightful discussions and gain constructive feedback on their research.

Join LFSA for its Friendsgiving celebration

WSU’s Latine Faculty and Staff Association (LFSA) will host a Friendsgiving Party 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20 at Wichita State Connect.

LFSA encourages attendees to bring a dish that reminds them of home and a non-perishable item. All donations will go towards the Shocker Support Locker.

First-gen students can join Fairmount College for coffee, cocoa, cookies and conversation

First-generation students are invited to coffee, cocoa and conversation with the Fairmount College Student Advisory Council, Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences dean’s office personnel, faculty, staff, students or anyone who supports student success as a Shocker is welcome.

The come-and-go event is from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 15 in 200 Lindquist Hall, Fairmount College boardroom. Stay, chat or grab a cookie or two before heading to class.
