New Marcus Welcome Center annex showcases Wichita State student experience

Since 2005, Wichita State’s Marcus Welcome Center has served as the gateway to campus, welcoming prospective students and their families. It showcases the university’s commitment to excellence and guides visitors through the application and admissions process.

Thanks to another generous gift from the Marcus family, the center now features a new addition that underscores Wichita State’s dedication to students’ applied learning and career development.

The Milly Marcus Annex is now the permanent home for the Shocker Career Accelerator, a multidimensional career-readiness experience that helps students build resumes and LinkedIn profiles, practice and prepare for interviews, meet with prospective employers, and find applied learning and post-graduation full-time employment opportunities.

Join Quiet Time meditations today

Do you need a moment of quiet in your day? That’s what Quiet Time, in-person and online meditations for staff and instructors, can offer.

Join every Tuesday online via Teams or in the faculty lounge in 204 Ablah Library. All staff and faculty are welcome. Meetings are from 2 to 2:30 p.m., and there will be have two meditations. One starts roughly 2:01 p.m. and the other starts roughly 2:16 p.m.

Come for both or stay for just one.

WSUPD detective candidates will present on the Fourth Amendment

Join the Wichita State University Police Department (PD) detective candidates as they present on “Exceptions to the Fourth Amendment Search Warrant Requirement” from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23 in 256 Rhatigan Student Center, Edmiston Room. Each of the five candidates will present for 15-20 minutes each followed by a question and answer session.

Join Shocker Rowing for S’mores and Oars Aug. 28

Join Shocker Rowing for an evening full of fun on the downtown Arkansas River with S’mores and Oars from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28. The event is available at no additional charge with a Shocker ID and $20 for anyone without a Shocker ID.

Boats and Bikes will provide yard games, s’mores, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards and pedal boats. Shocker Rowing will offer a “Learn 2 Row with Shocker Rowing” demonstration teaching anyone how to row on the Arkansas River, and fishing will be available through Wildlife and Fisheries.

Hear from Open XR Lab directors at the 2024 Galaxy Forum

The College of Innovation and Design’s Open XR Lab directors, Maggie Schoonover and Kristyn Waits, will deliver a keynote presentation at the Galaxy Forum, alongside WSU alumna Mallory Jennings, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Participants will have the chance to learn from these professionals and hear firsthand accounts from WSU students engaged in space-related projects. Admission to the Galaxy Forum is free, and attendees will also receive access to the museum, ensuring an enriching experience for everyone involved.
