12 high school seniors chosen as finalists in Distinguished Scholarship Invitational

Wichita State has selected the top 12 finalists in the annual Distinguished Scholarship Invitational (DSI):

The Gore Scholars winners will be announced at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30 in the Marcus Welcome Center. All finalists will receive competitive scholarship packages to attend Wichita State in fall 2026.

Join in spreading warmth this winter through the Kiah Duggins Shocker Support Locker winter coat drive

This winter, the Kiah Duggins Shocker Support Locker is hosting a coat drive. From Tuesday, Jan. 20 to Friday, Feb. 6, donate winter coats, jackets, sweaters, gloves and scarves to help Shockers stay warm this winter season.

Drop your donations off in bins located around campus – drop off locations include:

219 Rhatigan Student Center, Student Government Association office
Shocker Hall lobby
Shocker Success Center

University Police Department calls on campus to stock the Kiah Duggins Shocker Support Locker this Valentine’s Day

The Wichita State University Police Department is calling on Shocker Nation to help spread the love for Valentine’s Day this year by stocking the Kiah Duggins Shocker Support Locker.

Now through Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, UPD is stuffing a squad car at the University Police Department building at Mid Campus Drive and Research Place, where you can drop off your donations for the locker.

Don’t know what to donate? The following are common, in-demand items at the locker:

Canned foods and other easy instant meals
Fruit products like applesauce and juice, vegetables, and cooking sauces like spaghetti and tomato sauce
Grains and pasta, such as granola bars, rice, macaroni and bread
Health and hygiene products such as bandages, deodorant, soaps, toothpaste, tampons and pads
Baby products like wipes, diapers and formula

Try pinball for free this week at Shocker Sports Grill & Lanes

The Shocker Sports Grill & Lanes has partnered with Flipside Pinball, placing modern-day pinball machines to provide the perfect break in your day. Players can create an account to have their achievements recorded and work to earn a position on the leaderboard.

The current lineup includes Mustang, Iron Maiden, Thunderball and Venom, and Shocker Sports Grill & Lanes is offering free play Jan. 20-24, so come and try them out. After that, the games operate on cash only, priced at 75 cents for one game or three games for $2.

Join Shocker men’s basketball against East Carolina at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21 in Charles Koch Arena as the team and fans take a stand together and black out the stigma surrounding mental health. At the special game, fans are encouraged to wear black to highlight awareness, support and community strength.

The first fans through the doors will receive an exclusive Suspenders4Hope T-shirt, helping shine a light on the importance of mental health resources and hope for all.

Wednesday, Jan. 21 is Suspenders4Hope Day in Wichita. Join a Suspenders4Hope Mental Wellness and Preventing Suicide Training from 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 21 in 264 Rhatigan Student Center, Spencer Room. Learn about tools to support the community and assist someone in need. Students, staff, faculty and community member are welcome to sign up for the training.
