Now, more than ever, it is important to make connections with your fellow classmates, instructors and WSU staff.

Some helpful tips:

• Try arriving a little early to class to get to know other students and your instructors. Don’t know what to say to your instructor? Check out this page on the Student Success website.
• And get involved! There are a lot of Welcomefest events this month all over campus, giving you a chance to meet people and learn more about resources and organizations at WSU.

Need to talk to an academic advisor but aren’t sure where to find them? Go to the Academic Advising homepage and click on “Find your Academic Advisor” to find all academic advisors on campus. From here, students can schedule an appointment or call or email the advisor. Whether students work with a first-year advisor in OneStop Student Services or an advisor from their academic college, they will be listed on the page.

Academic advisors are here to help students with their schedule, registration, Degree Works audit, application for a diploma and connect them with university resources. Academic Advisors are a great place to start to ask questions.

The College of Health Professions’ WSU General Dentistry has announced a new discount program for WSU students. The dental discount program for WSU students will be launched during the summer with information and a savings chart to be available on the website.

WSU General Dentistry offers a wide range of affordable dental services to the general public that includes dental hygiene and cleanings, preventive dentistry, periodontal surgery and dental implants.

Starting June 5, the Math Lab moved to a shared space with the Shocker Learning Center (SLC) in 107 Lindquist Hall.

The move is only to a new space, and the Math Lab’s in-person, drop-in assistance remains the same and is still available to all students at no additional charge.

The Math Lab offers assistance in the following courses:

• MATH 012: Intermediate Algebra
• MATH 111: College Algebra
• MATH 112: Precalculus Math
• MATH 123: College Trigonometry
• MATH 131: Contemporary Math
• MATH 144: Business Calculus
• MATH 242: Calculus I
• STAT 370: Elementary Statistics

No appointments are necessary. For higher level math courses, use the SSC Navigate portal to make a request.

The SLC and Math Lab are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday during the summer semester.

Stop by for assistance with math courses, help with other summer classes or to have a quiet space to do schoolwork.

Tired of studying for finals and counting the days until summer? Answer a few questions in the Cultural Ambassador Program (CAP) travel quiz to find where to go on vacation next. The quiz will select the ideal travel destination from a great range of vacation spots.

To help students on their next adventure, CAP also created a travel guide that contains essential information about the many amazing worldwide destinations available based on the results from the quiz.

Interested in studying abroad? The first step would be to attend one of the study abroad information sessions or watch an info session video. 

The last study abroad information session of the spring semester will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 28 in 264 Rhatigan Student Center, Spencer Room. Prior registration is required to attend the session.

Wichita State students can attend on-campus university fine arts and athletics events at no additional charge with a Shocker ID, thanks to the Student Government Association.

Support your fellow classmates and faculty while exploring some of the creative pursuits WSU has to offer and display your Shocker pride at home athletic games.

The McNair Scholars program is accepting applications for 2023-24 academic year. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, March 31. McNair assists students who are underrepresented in higher education prepare for graduate study.

A few of the benefits and services students can receive with McNair are graduate school preparation, faculty mentorship, research experience, application fee waivers, spring semester campus visits, Individualized counseling and personal support for graduate school preparation, and participation is available to students at no charge, as the program is entirely federally funded.
