President Rick Muma and WuShock visited the Office of the Provost Dec. 16 to wish Dr. Shirley Lefever, executive vice president and provost, a happy and restful retirement and to thank her and the rest of her team for helping students thrive at Wichita State.

President Rick Muma visited Wichita State Esports during one of the team’s training sessions to recognize the team as the next recipient of Rick Rewards. President Muma recognized the accomplishments and growth of the teams over the past few years, including hosting the successful D-Air Capital Games event that saw nearly 200 people from across the Midwest visit campus; multiple top finishes from the individual teams; and helping middle school and high school students learn about esports with annual summer camps.

President Rick Muma visited the Office of Financial Aid during its regular staff meeting in the Rhatigan Student Center to recognize the office as the next recipient of Rick Rewards. President Muma recognized the Office of Financial Aid for its work in supporting the university’s priority of access and affordability and for assisting Shockers through the new FAFSA process that was put in place last academic year.

President Rick Muma visited Shocker Sound Machine in Charles Koch Arena to recognize its members as the next recipient of Rick Rewards. President Muma recognized Shocker Sound Machine for its work in charging up the crowds at home athletics games and for providing Shocker-filled shows for the community, including during this year’s Fall Address.

President Rick Muma visited the Division of Finance and Administration in Morrison Hall to express his gratitude to Werner Golling and his staff and celebrate the office as the next recipient of Rick Rewards Aug. 7. President Muma recognized the office for its work in supporting the mission and priorities of Wichita State and thanked Werner Golling, who will retire later this year, for his service to the university. President Muma also recognized Lisa Pappas, executive assistant to the finance and administration divisional officer, who was instrumental in the recent search for Golling’s successor.

Faculty and staff from the Department of Physics were recognized as the next recipient of Rick Rewards on May 8. The department was honored for the innovative research it is conducting, including recent grants from NASA, one for over $100,000 for future moon/Mars missions and one for $2 million to study the sun; the recently revitalized Doctor of Philosophy in applied mathematics, physics track, program; and its work bringing the campus community together during the April 2024 solar eclipse.
