Do you lack the resources to provide students with experiences that employers value? Wichita State is excited to announce the State of Kansas Applied Learning Funds are now open for applications. This game-changer will supercharge WSU student success and boost the Kansas economy.

Here’s why you should be excited:

  • Empower your students: These funds can help you directly integrate cutting-edge work-based learning experiences into your curriculum. Imagine your students gaining invaluable, real-world skills while tackling meaningful projects. They’ll graduate job-ready and with a competitive edge.
  • Fuel the Kansas economy: Equipping graduates with the skills businesses desperately need directly contributes to a stronger Kansas talent pipeline. These funds can help you bridge the gap between theory and practice, ensuring our graduates are ready to hit the ground running and make a lasting impact.
  • Ignite student engagement: Let’s face it, learning by doing is where it’s at. Applied learning experiences are engaging and hands-on, allowing students to apply their knowledge in real time. Our students will be motivated, inspired and eager to succeed.

Who can apply? WSU colleges and departments are invited to submit proposals. Special attention will be given to programs traditionally lacking access to paid applied learning opportunities.

What are the funding priorities?

  • Areas of greatest need: These funds are designed to level the playing field. Proposals that address areas with limited access to paid applied learning experiences will be prioritized.
  • Academic alignment: The work-based experience needs to seamlessly connect with your academic program, ensuring students are building valuable bridges between theory and practice.
  • Data-driven approach: The ability to collect data on your program’s effectiveness is crucial. This helps us ensure these funds have a lasting positive impact on student success.

Join in supporting the Shocker Employee and Dependent Scholarship on Sept. 17 and share this information with family and friends who would like to contribute. The University Staff Senate thanks you for supporting WSU employees with opportunities to further their education and increase their earning potential.

This is a reminder for all students, faculty and staff to send out surveys with Qualtrics. Wichita State has a license for Qualtrics, which became the official institutional survey software in 2012.

Qualtrics can be used for research purposes, program review, nominations, elections, applications and more.

Listed below are some of the benefits of using Qualtrics for your survey needs:

  • The program reduces overall cost as the university has a site license for Qualtrics, so users do not have to pay any other third-party vendor.
  • There is access to the Qualtrics Support Site to help users with survey design, methodology and survey questions.
  • Members have access to on-campus survey experts to optimize their survey and response rate.
  • Qualtrics ensures that users get accurate email lists of students, faculty and staff for their survey.
  • Qualtrics reduces survey fatigue as it can create reduced samples that more approximately target your survey population.
  • Qualtrics sends reminders, follow-ups and thank you emails to survey recipients.
  • Users can view analytics of create reports, including filtered results within Qualtrics.
  • Users can avoid getting marked as a spammer by sending surveys through Qualtrics rather than through their myWSU email.
  • Users can create surveys with embedded video, audio and graphics.
  • Users can create surveys that only show appropriate questions to each user using skip logic and survey flow.
  • Users can export data directly to (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Comma Separated Value (CSV) format or Portable Document Format PDF.

If you need an account, would like training or have questions, contact Whitney Crager, Office of Planning and Analysis, at 316-978-5350 or at whitney.crager@wichita.edu.

Want to present your scholarship at the 2024 Kansas Gender & Sexuality Conference? The deadline for submitting your presentation proposal, consisting of a 200-300 word summary/abstract, has been extended until Sunday, Sept. 15.

Submissions of original research, interactive training/workshops or other scholarship and creative work related to gender and/or sexuality from Kansas communities and universities are currently being accepted.
