The W. Frank Barton School of Business is pleased to announce that Tanvir Arfi — founder, chairman and CEO of Banyan Technologies Group — joined School’s Dean’s Advisory Board.

Arfi launched Banyan Technologies Group, a B2B services and software company, in 2018. He has also served as CEO for several automotive aftermarket, OEM services and technology businesses. While serving as president of Solera Holdings, Arfi worked on Solera’s $6.5 billion public-to-private transaction in 2016. He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Bangalore University in India and a master’s degree from Wichita State University. He currently resides in the greater Dallas area with his family.

Wichita State University earned status as an Emerging Hispanic Serving Institution when fall 2022 enrollment numbers show that 16% of students identify as Hispanic.

That is an important milestone on the way to the university’s goal of reaching the 25% necessary to earn the federal government’s designation as an HSI by the end of this decade.

The journey to that goal, however, is about much more than numbers. As Wichita State attracts and retains Hispanic students, its ability to help all students will improve.

“We are putting a lot of emphasis on the word ‘serving,’” said Executive Vice President and Provost Shirley Lefever. “It’s not simply about increasing the number of Hispanic students here. It’s really about what are we doing to make sure our students are successful here at WSU.”

Students and staff can win up to $300 when they sign up to compete in the Technology Mashup Challenge, which will be held on Jan. 27 and Feb. 3.

For the challenge, teams will select a technology from our Matchmaking Program and  create a presentation for a new product or use of service.

Any major or professional background is welcome and encouraged to sign up. This is a great opportunity to network with the Wichita entrepreneur community and the judges, who will be coming from a local venture capital firm and start-up accelerator.

Shocker Store. Provide a Gift for a Local Family. Sponsor a family this holiday season through the Salvation Army's Angel Tree and Star of Hope Programs!

Give a gift to a local child or adult through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, hosted by the Shocker Store. The program will be a hybrid this year, with the angel selection process being held online but the gifts being dropped off in the store (either the RSC or Braeburn Square locations).

  • Visit wichitastateuniversity.theangelgivingtree.org and create an account to select an angel from the Shocker Store’s virtual Angel Tree.
  • Once you “claim” your angel, purchase a suggested gift listed for that individual and bring it back to either Shocker Store by Wednesday, Nov. 30.
  • Gifts should be unwrapped, new and clearly labeled with your angel’s name and angel number.

Most of the campus will be closed Nov. 24-25, so now is the time for departments to submit requests for a holiday greeting to be activated on their calling tree or call distribution number.

Please submit the request at www.wichita.edu/services/telecom. Choose “Telephone Request” as the requested service, and then choose “Programming” as the telephone service. Please ensure to include all details in the description. Only requests received via this method will be processed.

Please email telecomservices@wichita.edu or call 316-978-3535 if you have any questions or need assistance.
