Student Engagement & Belonging (SEB) is excited to announce the selection of Omega Delta Phi Fraternity, Inc. for expansion at Wichita State, which will take place starting spring 2025.

Over the past year and a half, the Fraternity and Sorority Life Expansion Selection Committee and members of the Greek community have reviewed and evaluated several national organizations to decide the best chapter to bring to campus.

Omega Delta Phi Fraternity, Inc., a Latino-oriented, all-inclusive fraternity, will charter a colony with the focus of empowering their members to learn about how to provide a dedicated service to the needs of the community, by promoting and maintaining the traditional values of unity, honesty, integrity and leadership.

The organization will join WSU’s growing Greek community of 25 organizations and 550+ students. The community currently averages a 3.2 GPA and raised over $100,000 for various philanthropic causes in 2024. Members have also completed over 30,000 hours of community service in the past year and continue to take great pride in being agents in campus traditions. Omega Delta Phi will join the Cultural Greek Council and will participate in annual CGC events, such as Yard Show, CGC Sweetheart and many more. Omega Delta Phi Fraternity, Inc., was founded Nov. 25, 1987 at Texas Tech University. Its brotherhood was founded to provide to any man a diverse fraternal experience that coincides with a higher education.

Wichita State’s First-Generation Honor Society — the Alpha Alpha Alpha, or Tri-Alpha — is seeking students who want the opportunity to develop their leadership skills while growing and developing a new student-led organization. Applications will be accepted until Oct. 25 in preparation for membership induction Nov. 8.

Qualifications include: Neither of the student’s parents, step-parents nor legal guardians have completed a bachelor’s degree; student has earned a minimum of 30 credit hours toward a baccalaureate degree; student has achieved an overall undergraduate GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.

Graduate students who are first generation can be admitted with the completion of a minimum of nine graduate credits and a minimum graduate GPA of 3.5.

Faculty and staff can also qualify for induction by meeting the first-gen definition at the time they completed their bachelor’s degree, and they must be willing to serve as mentors for students.

There is a one-time fee of $25 for students and $40 for faculty and staff for lifetime membership to the First-generation Honor Society. For more information, contact trialpha@wichita.edu.

The four, representing the Delta Mu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Delta Upsilon Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.,  the Epsilon Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and the Gamma Nu Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., put their message in writing. A member representing each organization held up a sign declaring their intention to go to the polls.  The Alpha Phi Alpha representative held up a sign that read: "WSU Greeks."  The Kappa Alpha Psi representative's sign read: "Pledge to Vote."  The Omega Psi Phi  representative's sign read: "November."  The Phi Beta Sigma representative's sign read: "Will you?"

The NPHC, not just at WSU but nationwide, is rallying alumni and collegiate chapters to participate in this important election. These chapters are actively engaging in voter registration drives, either independently or in collaboration with their respective schools, demonstrating the widespread impact of the NPHC’s efforts.

On Oct. 25, the National Pan-Hellenic Council at WSU launched a Stroll to the Polls event, transporting students and the community to the polls at the Wichita Courthouse downtown. Shocker Vote is currently helping students register on-campus to vote. The purpose of the voter registration is to provide a safe and brave space for campus community members to register to vote and learn more about the various pathways for voting in the upcoming election. 

Wichita State’s chapter of Lambda Chi is offering the following recruitment events for those who are interested in learning more about the organization.

  • Casino Night, 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at Social Tap: Enjoy classic games, meet the brothers, and experience a thrilling night of fun and new connections.
  • Chapter informational, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at the RSC, room 240: Learn what Lambda Chi Alpha is all about, discover our values, learn about leadership opportunities, and ask any questions you have about joining our brotherhood.
  • Cornhole tournament, 6 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Shocker Hall Courtyard: Join us for friendly competition and get to know the brothers in a relaxed outdoor setting.
  • Watermelon Bust, noon Sept. 28 at the WSU Throwing Fields: This is our biggest event. Enjoy fun games while supporting a great cause with the brothers of Lambda Chi.
  • Bowling Night, 7 p.m. Oct. 3 in the RSC bowling alley: Relax, roll some strikes, and bond with the brothers.

Amazing opportunities are available through the Wichita State Interfraternity Council (IFC). The IFC comprises seven organizations dedicated to philanthropy, scholarships, leadership and fostering a strong sense of brotherhood among all members. Each organization within the IFC is committed to various charitable causes, promoting academic excellence through scholarships and nurturing leadership qualities among its members.

The council actively creates a supportive and inclusive environment for all members, emphasizing the importance of unity and cooperation among the different fraternities. By joining a fraternity, students can find a place that is right for them, where they can develop academic enrichment, service opportunities, leadership skills and lasting friendships.

Wichita State University Yard Show

Get ready to mark your calendars for the event of the year. The annual yard show is back and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever. This year will be a collaboration with National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and Cultural Greek Council (CGC) to bring the community a show it won’t want to miss.

Get ready to witness the amazing talents and skills of WSU’s sororities and fraternities at 6 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Shocker Hall courtyard.

Fraternity and sorority life plays a vital role in shaping the college experience for many students, providing opportunities for leadership, community service, academic support and lifelong friendships. WSU’s fraternity and sorority community is more than just a social network. It’s a commitment to the values of scholarship, leadership, service and brotherhood/sisterhood.

Fraternity and sorority life is dedicated to creating a positive and inclusive environment that fosters the growth of responsible and engaged citizens. As fraternities and sororities continue to support and promote Greek life on campus, they encourage all community members to engage with and learn more about the various organizations and their valuable contributions to the university. They are confident in the collective potential of community to continue fostering a strong and vibrant fraternity and sorority community.

The brothers of the Epsilon Chapter of Chi Sigma Tau (CST) National Fraternity Inc. are excited to release its spring 2024 recruitment week schedule. Get ready to have fun, volunteer and learn what CST is all about in the midst of true brotherhood.

CST will begin its first week of recruitment from Jan. 16 to Jan. 19, and its second week of recruitment will be from Jan. 22 to Jan. 26. All CST recruitment events will be open at no charge. Transportation to events will also be available upon request.
