Shocker Racing Baja Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) will host an open house 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept.12. at John Bardo Center (room 107). All majors are invited to attend.

Participants will learn more about Shocker Racing Baja SAE and enjoy free pizza and beverages. 

Wichita State students, faculty, and staff are invited to come out and dance at the fall 2021 Bollywood Night from 8 to 11:55 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Rhatigan Student Center’s Beggs Ballroom.

Bollywood Night offers students a chance to socialize and dance to the latest Bollywood songs played by a DJ.

The dress code is casual and smart casual. Closed-toe shoes are requested for men. Entry is limited.

The Criminal Justice Student Association (CJSA) will host its first meeting today at 3 p.m. via Zoom. The event will feature a speaker from the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training.

The CJSA is open to students of all majors and serves to provide students with resources, people, information and experience. In the meetings, members can expect to listen to guest speakers, have access to work opportunities and join in-person field trips.

The topics will encompass law enforcement, corrections, courts, forensic science, homeland security and the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC).

To become a member, visit the CJSA Shocker Sync page and fill out an application under forms. There is a one-time, $5 membership fee.

Please remind your students of the upcoming Zoom sessions for the Master of Social Work (MSW) program. All students of any major are eligible to learn more about this program, students can attend the following MSW info sessions via Zoom at the following dates:

  • 4 p.m. Sept. 8
  • 11 a.m. Oct. 8
  • 6 p.m. Nov. 8
  • noon Dec. 8

Attending these Zoom sessions will introduce students to the MSW program, meet with faculty members, and walk them through the application process. A graduate record examination is not required for admission consideration.

The deadline for the 2022-23 MSW program applications is Jan.14.

The Shocker Learning Center will host an open house 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today, Sept. 8 at its location in  Lindquist Hall (room 107).

During the event, participants can learn more about the academic services and spaces the learning center offers to all Wichita State students at no extra charge, including supplemental instruction and tutoring.

Free coffee, water bottles, hot beverage tumblers, pens, pencils and other classroom supplies will be available.

Wichita State’s Society of Women (SWE) Engineers is inviting students to a resume workshop 7-9 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Partnership 2 Building in room A13. Participants can bring a draft resume and receive tips from SWE professionals.

The event is a partnership with the Wichita SWE professional section and will offer participants a chance to prepare for the upcoming Engineering and I.T. Career Fair 2-5 p.m. Sept. 14 outside the John Bardo Center.

Dr. Timothy Jones, Wichita State’s College of Fine Arts assistant professor of violin, will perform a recital on campus with pianist Gene Philley at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12.

The performance is free for WSU students. The cost of admission for faculty, staff, senior citizens, and the military is $10. For all other adult attendants, the cost of admission is $12. Children’s admission is $6.

Jones and Philley will present a program of works by Johannes Brahms, one of the great masters of German Romanticism.

Join Wichita State’s Society of Women Engineers (SWE) for an evening of tie-dye 5-7 p.m. Sept. 10 at the John Bardo Center courtyard.

Free SWE-branded T-shirts will be provided for participants in a variety of colors.

Shock This Space! an Accessibility Story Challenge is a Wichita State University Hackathon where students write, design, and share. The event is sponsored by the Student Activities Council, Innovation Fellows, English Department, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, and Office of Disability Services.

Shock This Space is a 24-Hour hackathon for students to work alone or in teams to create a comic or short graphic narrative around the topic of accessibility 7  p.m.-7 p.m. Oct.7-8 at the John Bardo Center. The winning individual or team will receive a $500 cash award.

During the hack, students will write, design, and present their stories. Stories can include explaining what accessibility is, why it is important, how it is achieved, problems achieving it on a college campus or why it benefits everyone. 

Shock This Space is sponsored by Wichita State’s Department of English, the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Office of Disability Services, the Student Activities Council, and the University Innovation Fellows.

The deadline to enter is midnight Sunday,  Oct. 3.
