Wichita State University employees who reached a service milestone between Sept. 2, 2020, and Sept. 1, 2021, will be honored at two events on the same day hosted by Wichita State beginning Oct. 25 at Charles Koch Arena.

The event for honorees celebrating milestones of five to 20 years of service with the State of Kansas will be held 9:30-11:30 a.m. Oct. 25 at Charles Koch Arena. The order of events is as follows:

  • 9:00 a.m. Doors open
  • 9:30 a.m. Honoree breakfast
  • 10 a.m. Ceremony

The event for honorees celebrating milestones of 25 to 50 years of service with the State of Kansas, Bender of Twigs (25 years dedicated to Wichita State) and those having retired from the WSU will be held 6-8 p.m. Oct. 25 at Charles Koch Arena. The order of events is as follows

  • 5:30 p.m. Doors open
  • 6:00-6:30 p.m. Dinner
  • 6:30-8:00 p.m. Ceremony

Honorees will be seated in reserved seating on the arena floor. Other Wichita State employees, as well as friends and family, are welcome to attend and observe the ceremony from open-seating available in the arena stands.

The Philosophy Department is pleased to announce two talks by LCDR Joseph M. Hatfield, assistant professor Department of Cyberscience for the U.S. Naval Academy.

Please join the Psychology Department in celebration of the life of Dr. Charles Burdsal, who passed away on Sept. 10. The memorial is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15 at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex, room 180.

Burdsal, the community psychology Ph.D. coordinator and professor of psychology, began working at Wichita State University in 1972. At 77 years old, he was still actively teaching classes at Wichita State University at the time of his death.

Join Women in Public Service for the 2021 annual celebration from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 21 in the John Bardo Center lobby.

For their lifetime commitment to public service, WPS will honor Kathy Sexton, city manager for the city of Derby, and Lisa Dodson, PPMC research and program evaluation manager.

Hors d’oeuvres will be provided. Cash bar is available.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry will host Dr. Tatiana Mishanina from the University of California-San Diego at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at McKinley Hall (room 224). The event will also be available via Zoom. Dr. Mishanina will present research results in a talk titled “Transcribing DNA Code Into RNA Messages: Insights Into RNA Polymerase From Structural and Biochemical Experiments.”

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry will host Dr. Juan Del Valle from Notre Dame University at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at McKinley Hall (room 224). The event will also be available via Zoom. Dr. Valle will present research results in a talk titled “Nature-inspired Beta-strand Mimics Targeting Pathogenic Amyloids.”

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry will host Dr. Breann Brown from Vanderbilt University at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 27 in McKinley Hall (room 224). The event will also be available via Zoom. Dr. Brown will present research results in a talk titled “Structure-Based Insights into Control of Heme Biosynthesis.”

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry will host Dr. Wei Wei, assistant professor of engineering a Wichita State University, at a Chemistry Colloquium talk at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at McKinley Hall (room 224). The event will also be available via Zoom. Dr. Wei will present research results in a talk titled “Advanced Electrode Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage.”
