Assistant professors are invited to attend an event to meet and connect with your fellow assistant professors at Wichita State. The event is designed for faculty who are less than fours years as a tenure track faculty and who want to discover potential future collaborators and forge valuable relationships.

The University Staff Senate will host a Lunch and Learn with speakers from Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11 in 262 Rhatigan Student Center, Herrman Room. Join in practicing mindfulness and stay to learn about CAPS services myths.

Meditation will be led by Chukwunenye Nweke. First 50 attendees will receive HOPE bracelets. Bring your own lunch, and treats and refreshments will be provided.

Disability Support Services (DSS) at TRIO and WSU Libraries invite you to PAWS & Relax with therapy dogs from Love on a Leash during finals week from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 10 and 11 on the first floor of the Ablah Library.

Love on a Leash sends the departments different teams of volunteer therapy dogs and their handlers for each PAWS & Relax event. They will post updates to their socials, including which therapy dogs to expect and their bios:

Fall Engineering Open House | Free Public Event Featuring Student Presentations | Friday, Dec. 6 from 9:30 am to 2 pm | John Bardo Center

The College of Engineering is hosting its fall 2024 Engineering Open House event from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 in the John Bardo Center. Senior students will feature their projects on the first floor and the second floor concourse, while students enrolled in the first-year seminar will feature projects in the second and third floor hallways.

Students, staff, faculty and individuals from both Innovation Campus partners and community organizations are invited to attend. The event is an opportunity for students to showcase their work and practice presentation skills, for staff and faculty to show their support, and for companies and organizations to see the work our students are doing, as well as interact with prospective job candidates.

Join the Women’s Leadership Initiative for its next book club. This time, the selection is “The Likeability Trap: How to Break Free and Succeed as You Are” by Alicia Menendez.

The event is open to anyone who would like to read this title with the group. Participants will meet twice in person: from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19 and Jan. 16, both in 261 Rhatigan Student Center, Olive Room to discuss key takeaways and thoughts from the book. Reading during the winter break is a perfect way to unwind and reflect, making it an ideal time to dive into this inspiring book.

Have you thought you might try meditation but could never get your mind and body to settle down “enough to do it”? Try Quiet Time. This week, organizers will begin a series of meditations designed just for “fidgety skeptics” using Dan Harris and Jeff Warren’s book, “Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics.”

Starting today and for the next several weeks, meditations from Quiet Time will be inspired by the book. Join every Tuesday online via Teams or in 204 Ablah Library, faculty lounge. All staff and faculty are welcome. Meetings are from 2 to 2:30 p.m., and there will be have two meditations. One starts roughly 2:01 p.m. and the other starts roughly 2:16 p.m. Come for both or stay for just one.
