Wichita State’s First-Year Programs in Student Success invites you to join a Syllabus Party 11 a.m.-1 p.m. tomorrow, Jan. 25 at the Rhatigan Student Center Harvest (Room 142). Bring your class syllabi and your planners (electronic or paper) and Student Success will provide the rest. Students who attend will receive supplies, goodies, light refreshments and valuable peer support from our Transition Mentors to help you get organized for the spring semester.

The first session an eight-week ignitor course will take place 5:45-7:45 p.m. Jan. 31 at Devlin Hall. ignitor is an accelerator program focusing on the ideation pre-seed phase. It provides structured support for innovators and entrepreneurs. This course is free and open to the entire campus community.

The sixth annual Shocker Legacy Day will take place 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Rhatigan Student Center (Room 233). This event is for high school-aged or transfer students of Wichita State faculty and staff. Children of Wichita State alumni are also invited.

During Shocker Legacy Day, attendees will hear from admissions, take photos with WuShock, ask questions of current Wichita State students and go on a tour of the main campus featuring on-campus living options.

Tickets to the Shocker men’s basketball game versus Southern Methodist University that evening are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

To attend Shocker Legacy Day, RSVP by Jan. 31. Reservations will be unavailable once when the event reaches capacity.

The Center for Women’s Studies in sponsorship with Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and The League of Women Voters of Wichita will convene the seventh annual Diverse Women’s Summit (DWS) March 7 via Zoom. The event is free and open to the public.

DWS is a meeting of individuals and groups from different backgrounds on local, regional, national and global issues affecting women. The theme of the 2022 DWS will be Intersectionality at Wichita State University.

The summit is in three parts:

  • 9 a.m.-noon, Students Showcase: This will include a presentation of papers, art, posters, and other projects by students and other participants.
  • 1-4 p.m., Creative Concourse: This will be a presentation of poetry, skits, stories and other projects by students, community members and other participants.
  • 7-8:30 p.m., International Women’s Day Keynote Speech: This speech will discuss the 2022 theme  Intersectionality at Wichita State University–Prospects and Perspectives.

The next Food For Fines will take place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 2-4 at the Shocker Support Locker. During this time, students can donate food to pay off any unpaid parking citations up to $50 received after Nov. 5, 2021. Food for Fines is sponsored by the Student Government Association.

Individual students, student groups, faculty, staff and innovation partners are invited to submit abstracts or proposals to present at the 2022 Diverse Women’s Summit (DWS) 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. March 7 via Zoom. Proposals should include 100-200 words describing the presentation (type, subject, theme and purpose). Presentations that focus on the following topics will be given priority:

  • Intersectional research
  • Citizenship and special populations
  • Women, gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality and ability
  • Social justice and the future

Proposals and abstracts will be accepted until Feb. 15 and should be submitted to chinyere.okafor@wichita.edu.
