Do you want to be the change?  Social work may be the right path for you. Wichita State’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program is accepting additional applications for the 2022-23 school year through April.

The program is open to all majors and has both full- and part-time schedule options. MSW students go on to work in mental health, forensics, health care, addiction treatment, aging, schools, international settings, child and family welfare, disaster relief, and more.  According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for social work over the next decade is growing faster than average.

Join the Women of Wichita State (WWSU) for a lunch-and-learn event 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. March 23 at the Marcus Welcome Center. Panelists will include the following:

  • Dr. Alicia Martinez Newell, assistant vice president of Student Affairs
  • Dr. Jessica Provines, assistant vice president of wellness and chief psychologist Student Wellness Center
  • Alicia Sanchez, assistant dean of students and director of Diversity and Inclusion
  • Heather Stafford, director of Student Health Services
Attendees must RSVP and have the option to purchase a lunch or bring their own. Please RSVP regardless of lunch option.

The Student Activities Council (SAC), Spectrum and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion will host its 12th annual Party Like a Drag Star event at 8 p.m. March 25 at the Wichita State Metroplex. The show will include students local, regional, and student kings and queens.

This is a cashless event. Ticket rates are $5 for WSU students with Shocker ID; $8 for faculty and staff; and $10 for general admission. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m.

The Lecture Series in the Mathematical Sciences and the Midwest Geometry Conference 2022 will host it’s never event at 3 p.m. Friday, March 11 at Jabara Hall (Room 127). Dr. Chikako Mese, a professor from Johns Hopkins University, will present a lecture titled Holomorphic Rigidity of Teichmuller space.”

The presentation is titled “Radiation and Radiation Protection at Aviation Altitudes, LEO and in Deep Space.”

Dr. Joseph Kerski and Mark Stewart, from the international Geographical Information Systems (GIS) field technology company Esri, will present two workshops March 24-25. The events are hosted by University Libraries.

The second event, “Telling Your Story with ArcGIS StoryMaps” will take place noon-1 p.m. March 25 at the Ablah Library. The event will discuss Esri’s ArcGIS StoryMaps program which enables the creation of inspiring, immersive stories by combining text, interactive maps and multimedia content. Kerski will introduce this technology and offer tips for creating engaging StoryMaps.
