Students, faculty and staff are invited to come and tour the new library spaces during a tour 4-4:45 p.m. Aug. 25 and at noon-12:45 p.m. Sept. 2 at the Ablah Library. Participants can meet their guide at the circulation desk located in Ablah Library.

The tour includes the new 24-hour study room, Lightboard Studio, virtual reality zone, 3D printers, focus rooms and other study rooms. If time permits, the tour guide will also provide an overview of the library website and introduce finding articles, books and interlibrary loan.

Registration is not required, but registrants will receive an email reminder the day before the event. 

The Graduate School invites faculty and staff to learn more about the experiences of Wichita State’s international students at 3 p.m. today, Aug. 16, at 266 Rhatigan Student Center. During the event, international faculty and students will share challenges they have faced and what has helped them succeed.

Shocker Career Accelerator is hosting an on-campus Job Fair 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8 on the first floor of the Rhatigan Student Center. This event provides a faculty and staff an opportunity to connect with students who are interested in applying for open student and graduate assistant positions.

Student Health Services will host an annual Mini Wellness Fair 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today, Sept. 14, on the first floor of the Rhatigan Student Center. The event will promote available health services and help students solve various health-related issues they may require assistance with.

The event is a collaboration with local programming and other organizations and services and will feature informational displays, educational health resources, activities with prizes, gifts and opportunities for students to ask questions. The following programs will be featured at the event:

Participants can join each individual or all of these interactive and free workshops centered on navigating challenges with resilience and intention. The Graduate School will host a round table discussion featuring first-generation students and faculty at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15 at the 266 Rhatigan Student Center. During the event, first-gen students will share their experiences attending graduate school.

The round table will include first-generation faculty, members of Wichita State’s First-Generation Coordinating Council, First Generation Student Organization, Graduate Student Council and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

Wichita State Esports is collaborating with the Office of First-Year Programs to a host Super Smash Bros. Ultimate event as part of the annual Clash of the Colleges event. To join the Esports portion, students can sign up at the Clash of the Colleges Super Smash Bros Ultimate website. Applications will be accepted until midnight Aug. 24.

Clash of the Colleges Virtual Games are also back through Aug. 25. This will include minute-to-win-it home games, talent showcase, e-gaming, scavenger hunts and virtual escape rooms.

For the virtual events, students will receive virtual points for their college, in addition to points won at the in-person event. The final winner of Clash of the Colleges will be announced Aug. 26.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is proud to present the Diversity Lecture Series, a series that features distinguished leaders and experts to inspire campus dialogue, community engagement, and learning about the national narrative on diversity and inclusion. An upcoming lecture will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8 at CAC Theater.

This lecture will feature keynote speaker Kwame Onwuachi, author of “Notes from a Young Black Chef,” and the topic will be Ingredients for an Inclusive Workplace. Audiences will learn how to shine a light on the challenges their own organizations face, with memorable stories from Kwame’s journey to illustrate the ingredients for success.

The Diversity Lecture Series is free and open to the public. Registration is required to attend.

Join librarians from University Libraries at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11 in the Ablah Library Leisure Reading Room for a discussion about the WSU Common Read selection for the current school year. “Notes From a Young Black Chef” is a memoir about a young man from the Bronx projects and his path to opening an elite restaurant in Washington, D.C.

This path is fraught with painful lessons we can all learn from. Learn more about the book and locate the title in the WSU collections at the Wichita State Common Read 2022: “Notes From a Young Black Chef” web guide found at the link below.

During the discussion event, light refreshments will be available. The discussion is open to the WSU community. Registration is not required, but registered attendees will receive an email reminder.
